Monday, May 22: End of the Year Celebration, Parsons Auditorium, 5:30 p.m.

One of the best events of the year for Milford Public Schools!  Each school has selected a Teacher, Para, and Parent of the Year and now it’s time to celebrate their accomplishments.  We are also happy to introduce the districtwide winners: Kelly Jones (Teacher of the Year), Ellen Connors (Para of the Year), and Ashley Grant-Eckhart (Parent of the Year).  The ceremony will be held in the Parsons Auditorium, beginning at 5:30 p.m.  All are welcome. Monday, 5/22: Board of Education Meeting, Parsons, 7:00 p.m.

The Board of Education will conduct its Committee of the Whole Meeting with the primary topic being the Education Operations Budget, as set by the Board of Aldermen last week. The task now at hand will be to determine where the $200,000 shortfall in the BOE’s original request will be applied.  This work needs to be done in order to balance the 2023-24 budget. All are welcome to attend and hear this last step in the budget process.  PACKET.

Episode 23 is now available. This week, Podmaster Cam Wilkitis interviews Dr. Cutaia to find out more about the budget shortfall and possible areas that might be affected, along with our news and sports coverage, as always!  Give it a listen!

 


Wednesday, 5/24: Annual Respect Ceremony, Fowler Field Pavilion, 5:45 Ambassador’s Check-In

The Respect Ambassadors have been selected at each of our elementary and middle schools – and we are looking forward to celebrating them!  Organized by the Milford Junior Woman’s Club, this time-honored event is always wonderful.  Ambassadors are asked to check in at 5:45 p.m., the program begins at 6:00 p.m.  Please note: in addition to the event on Wednesday, all of the Respect STARS are invited to march in the Memorial Day Parade.  Details will be shared next week.

 


One Week Left to Send in Plastic Water Bottles for the Great Boat Race


The last day to send in your empty plastic water bottles is next Friday, May 26th.  Bottles will be gathered and delivered to the middle schools as they come in,  FLYER. The race will take place on ‘Pirate Day’ here in Milford (June 4th) – so mark the date on your calendar now.  And – if you want a quick smile – take a look at the commercial prepared by our middle schoolers to advertise the event.  It’s AWESOME!


Thursday 6/1 & Friday, 6/2: Wizard of Oz, West Shore Middle School Gymnasium


Follow the Yellow Brick Road – right to West Shore Middle School!  The WSMS Drama Club is conducting final rehearsals and they can’t wait to perform for us.  Two nights of shows:  Thursday, June 1st and Friday, June 2nd. Both shows begin at 7:00 p.m.  Tix: $10 for adults, $5 for students/senior citizens. Tickets will go on sale in the school cafeteria beginning Monday (5/22).  If tickets are still available by the show nights, they will be available for purchase at the door. FLYER.


Oyster Fest Volunteers Needed – Sign Up Now


It’s no secret Milford is known for our annual Oyster Festival!  An event like this, however, can only happen with the selfless efforts of volunteers – and we need you!  To volunteer for this wonderful event, fill out the form and follow the instructions on the bottom.  And, for students who are collecting volunteer hours (for graduation recognition, confirmation, etc.), these hours will be validated for you. Tomorrow: Saturday, 5/20: Little Mermaid, Jr. presented by the Milford Adaptive Program, Parsons Auditorium – 3:00 p.m., FREE ADMISSION!


We are delighted to report that the Milford Adaptive Program, an organization that gives EVERYONE a place to be included, safe, and successful in every way.  Partnering typical and exceptional peers, this year’s performance of Little Mermaid, Jr. is sure to make you smile and shout ‘Encore’!  Free admission – hope to see you there!  FLYER.


Sunday, 5/21: The MAC to Feature Ariel Horowitz, Classical Musician, 1:00 p.m., Tix required


If you are looking for a musical weekend, give the MAC (Milford Arts Council) a try!  This Sunday, enjoy the soundings of Ariel Horowitz, in a collection of classical violin and piano pieces.  Click HERE for Info and Tickets.


Tuesday, 5/23: Milford Health Dept. to Present QPR Training, Recognizing Suicidal Behaviors


The Milford Health Dept. is poised to present a special program called QPR: Question, Persuade, Refer.  This program gives all of us the tools to use to help someone who may be suicidal.  The right questions to ask.  Good background info to know. Great resources to use.  This event will be held in-person at the Milford Hospital Auditorium, but seating is limited.  To register, click HERE for the flyer.

Quack, Quack! It’s BACK!!  Make sure you mark this one on your calendar!  June 3rd. Downtown Harbor area.
