Upcoming News & Events,
8/13 and Beyond
Dear MPS Families,
Hello friends! The pace is really ramping up for us here – and we are looking forward to the start of the 2021-22 school year. From here on out, you will begin to receive many communications from Central Office and from your specific schools. We ask that you be vigilant in reading all of the messages that come your way so you will stay up-to-date on all the Back-to-School info you need. We appreciate your partnership on this!
Today’s UNE edition covers some information that is important for everyone. Check it out!
Kindergarten Orientation – It’s a Date! (Tuesday, August 31st at your child’s school)
We are really looking forward to meeting our brand new Kindergarten students at Orientation and we know you are excited, too! To get things started, our Kindergarten Orientation will take place on Tuesday, August 31st in your child’s elementary school. Couple of notes: each elementary school will be having 3 half-hour sessions – and families will receive a notification from the school to let them know what time their session will be. The sessions are slated for 1:00 – 1:30; 1:45 – 2:15; and 2:30 – 3:00. Watch for your school’s email.
Parent Portal Will Open on Monday, Aug. 23rd
Here’s some much anticipated news: the Parent Portal will open on Monday, Aug. 23rd. This is an online feature where parents are asked to log in to their child’s PowerSchool account, make any updates needed, confirm a few acknowledgements – and then are able to learn who their child’s/children’s teacher will be for the 2021-22 school year. We will provide additional information next week – but we wanted to share the date with you now.
How’s Your Summer Learning Going?
With less than 3 weeks to go ‘til the school year begins, it’s a good idea to make sure any Summer Learning work and/or assignments have been completed. Our Summer Learning website made it very easy this year to figure out what your child needs to do to be prepared for the start of school. Make sure you take a look (or have your child take a look), click the appropriate level tab at the top, and determine what still needs to be done. Check it out!
New Student Registration – It’s Not Just for Kindergartners!
While most of the emphasis for the past few months has been on Kindergartners, don’t forget – there might be new families who have joined our wonderful community over the summer and we want to meet them, too! Families with children who are planning to enter the Milford Public Schools are urged to visit our website and begin the online Registration process. It’s pretty easy – the link is right on the home page (Registrations/Withdrawals). If you have any new neighbors, would you please mention it to them? Thanks in advance!
Adult Education Basic Skills/ESL/Citizenship Course Registration: Aug. 25th, 26th, 27th
In case you missed it – a beautiful 1-page mailer was delivered to every home in Milford last weekend. If you (or someone you know) would benefit from any of the courses available (for free, by the way), please contact the Adult Education office at (203) 783-3461 or send an email to email@example.com. Thanks!

Let’s keep it going, Milford! Now it’s time for the 2nd dose (for those who attended WSMS on 7/28) – and our convenient Vaccination Clinics will once again take place to continue the trend. The West Shore clinic will be held on WEDNESDAY, Aug. 18th at WEST SHORE MIDDLE SCHOOL from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. Visit the clinic to get your 2nd shot – or – if you’re a first-timer, you can also go to the clinic and get your first dose. Either way – you’re welcome to visit!
- West Shore Middle School: 70 Kay Avenue, Milford
- All individuals, 12 years and older, are welcome
- Walk-ins are welcome; no appointment necessary
- The Pfizer vaccine will be dispensed
[And as a reminder – the East Shore ‘2nd dose’ Clinic will be held on August 25th. Don’t worry, we’ll remind you again next week!]
And Speaking of Immunizations … Annual Back-to-School Immunization Clinic Slated for Tuesday, August 31st
With all the focus being on COVID vaccinations, we didn’t want you to forget about the regular set of immunizations that are offered to families for school entry each year. Thanks to the Milford Health Dept., they will be having their ‘Back to School Clinic’ on Tuesday, August 31st. The clinic will be held at the Milford Public Library in the Children’s Program Room from 2:30 – 4:30 p.m. Appointments ARE required for this clinic (so they have the right supply of the various immunizations you need); just call (203) 783-3314 to reserve your spot. Click HERE for the flyer.
In Closing... Enjoy the weekend everyone! And take a breath – we’ll all get there together!
