What a beautiful week we’ve had!! Perfect for our Spring Break 2023.  On Monday, we’re ‘back to business’ though – so set your alarms on Sunday night and get ready for our last 9 weeks of school. Here’s what’s on tap for the weeks ahead.

Monday, April 17: Board of Education Business Meeting, Parsons, 7:00 p.m.

The Board of Education will hold its regular business meeting on Monday, 4/17 in the Parsons Complex.  Start time is 7:00 p.m. Here’s what’s on the agenda:  Chair’s Report, Instructional Highlight: Next Generation Accountability Report & District Performance Report, Board Update on Elementary Instructional Coaching, High School Graduation Dates, Human Resource Report, Quarterly Budget Report, Disbursement Report, Consideration of Minutes (3/13, 3/27, 3/29), Board Comment.  PACKET.

Monday, April 17: Last Public Hearing on the Budget @ City Hall, 6:00 p.m.

Monday, April 17th will be the last time you will be able to voice your thoughts to the Board of Aldermen – in person -- on the City and/or Education Budgets for this year’s budget cycle. All are welcome to provide their comments at this meeting. We also believe that to be a good citizen one should be an informed citizen.  See below.

We are pleased to announce a new 'MPS Budget Central' page is now live!  This page includes all the information available connected to our 2023-24 Budget process. New UNE ‘Event Board’ to Help Keep Everything in One Place

We are pleased to report a new web page that is connected to our Upcoming News communication:  the UNE ‘Event Board.’  This webpage will be updated every week and will contain all the flyers and documents we reference in our news blast. Like the Budget Central concept, this will give you one place to find everything you might be looking for.  We hope you like it!  Here’s the LINK.

Saturday, April 15: Kindness & Earth Day Rock Decorating Event, @ Firehouse Gallery, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon; FREE

We are pleased to report that a free rock decorating workshop is open to all – in the name of kindness and in celebration of Earth Day.  Sponsored by the PEP Program (People Empowering People), you are welcome to paint two rocks at the event:  one to take home and the other to leave anywhere in the community for someone to find.  Pre-registration is required.  Students Sought for HQI Summer Experience; Applications Deadline 4/19

Would your student like to be involved in our HQI Summer Experience?  Each summer, MPS teachers receive intensive professional development training in the area of High Quality Instruction (HQI), but in order to do this properly, we need students to help us.  This year’s HQI training will be held from July 17-21 (dates and hours depend on grade and level content).  We are looking for students who will be entering Grades 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9 or 10 in the 2023-2024 school year. More information can be found on the application on PowerSchool. 

Please complete the application found under Forms in PowerSchool to indicate your interest by Wednesday, April 19th. There are limited slots. If we exceed the number of slots, we will use a lottery.

Friday, April 28th & Saturday, April 29th: Jay Rowe’s Smooth Jazz for Scholars Concert, Parsons Auditorium, 8:00 p.m.

It’s almost here.  Don’t delay and make sure you order your tix as soon as possible for Jay’s 20th Annual Benefit Concert: Smooth Jazz for Scholars.  Proceeds from this annual concert go directly to the MPS Music Program.  Jay has donated nearly $90,000 to our district over the past two decades and we are grateful for his generous support. 

Details: The concert will be held on Friday, April 28th and Saturday, April 29th at the Parsons Auditorium.  Doors open at 7:00 p.m., show time is 8:00 p.m.  $50 for one show/$85 for both shows.  There are 3 ways to purchase tix: online, in-person, or by mail.  Click HERE for more and to purchase. 

Saturday, April 29th: Dash For Danni Walk Run Fundraising Event

The Annual Dash for Danni Fundraising Event is scheduled for Saturday, April 29th and will take place at Foran High School.  This 3.1 mile walk/run commemorates the life of Danni Kemp, a former scholar-athlete from Foran, who passed away from a rare form of brain cancer.  Mark your calendars now for APRIL 29th. Let’s all be Danni Strong!

MPS Volleyball Open Gym for Girls Entering Gr. 7-12 Starts June 28th

The Milford Public Schools Volleyball Open Gym program is designed for girls entering grades 7-12.  It’s a great way for veteran players to get in shape – and for girls new to the game to see what it’s all about. The Open Gym is open Mondays and Wednesdays, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. during the summer.  One-Time Program Fee is $40.  Click HERE for the flyer and registration info.

Saturday, April 22: Milford Celebrates Earth Day, Downtown on the Green, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Milford's Earth Day celebration will take place Saturday, April 22nd from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on the famous downtown Milford Green, and sponsored by the Milford Environmental Concerns Coalition.  Join us for a fun-filled event where local environmentally focused clubs, organizations, and businesses will be sharing ways to move to a more sustainable future. It's a family friendly event with activities for all ages! This year’s festival will feature numerous how-to exhibits including recycling, composting, and how to start your own ‘plogging’ club. Saturday, April 29: Milford Tree Giveaway, Pre-Reservation required

The City’s Open Space and Sustainability Department is poised to conduct its 500 Free Tree Giveaway.  Citizens will be able to pick up their free tree on Saturday, April 29th at Eisenhower Park (lower parking lot). PRE-RESERVATION REQUIRED.  This year’s Tree Giveaway is a tribute to long-time Milford educator and nature lover Celine Sandor who passed away earlier this year. There is a 1 tree limit per household and trees must be planted in private yards within the City of Milford.  The offer is available to current Milford residents only.  IDs will be required at pick-up.  Please visit the Open Space webpage for more details.  Thank you, Milford!

Milford Rec. Dept. Acting Class Offered

Do you have an interest in acting … or already have some experience and want to learn more?  Our Milford Rec. Dept. is pleased to share some info on an upcoming 6-week program, led by Kevin McCormick.  Two sessions will be held each Monday during the program (April 24 – June 5).  The 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. session is for Kids and Teens; the 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. session is for adult students. Classes will be held at the Margaret Egan Center; cost is $180.  Click HERE for flyer.

Spring Bulk Pickup Schedule: First Round Begins on Monday, 4/17

The City released its 2023 Bulk Trash Pickup Schedule recently. Now that we’ll be on April vacation for a whole week, it’s a great time to go through your house and do some spring cleaning!  Keep in mind, the dates are always subject to change, but here’s what the dates are now for your planning purposes.  There are specific guidelines on what will be accepted during Bulk Pickup and how items should be bundled or packaged.  Click HERE for details.

If your garbage pickup day is Monday – Pickups will begin April 17

If your garbage pickup day is Tuesday – Pickups will begin April 24

If your garbage pickup day is Thursday – Pickups will begin May 1

If your garbage pickup day is Friday – Pickups will begin May 8

Questions should be directed to the Public Works Office, 203-783-3265. The Milford Transfer Station is now back to normal operating hours (Monday – Saturday: 7:00am – 3:00pm).
