Upcoming News & Events

August 12, 2022 and Beyond

Hello MPS Community Members!

It hasn’t been just the weather that’s been heating up in Milford … as the pace has also begun to ‘heat up’ here in the Milford Public Schools!  There are only 19 DAYS TO GO before we are all back together again – and as you can imagine, the amount of news we want to share with you is growing every day.  So … grab yourself a cup of coffee, find a comfy spot, and read through some of the latest and greatest news for this week.  Enjoy!

QUESTIONS, WE GET QUESTIONS

Once again, we are happy to present some of the more frequently-asked questions and their respective answers from our school community members.  And, now that we are kind of in the ‘home stretch,’ we will be issuing our Upcoming News & Events messaging every Friday from here on out.  So here goes – this week’s top questions and points of note.

When Will the Parent Portal Open?

This year, we will be opening the Parent Portal in 2 stages and it will be important that you to know what will be available and when. Here’s what you can expect:

Thursday, Aug. 18th:  Preliminary Opening.  Sometimes known as the ‘Sign Off Sheet,’ families can enter their PowerSchool accounts beginning next Thursday (8/18) and review/acknowledge all of the items we routinely require every year.  Some of these items are the Parent-Student Handbook, Emergency Contact Info Update, the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP), Foodservice documentation (such as the Free/Reduced Price Forms), Photo Release, and many other annual notifications.

Tuesday, Aug. 23rd: Classroom Teacher Assignments, Bus Routes Released.  Now that all of your preliminary work has been completed (beginning Aug. 18th) it will make easy work for you to log on (on the 23rd) and find out your child’s classroom teacher assignment and his/her bus route (if eligible).

We decided to implement this 2-stage portal opening this year to help mitigate the increased and substantial traffic that our system experiences when we open the Parent Portal for the first time in August. We believe you will find it easier to access your child’s information this year!

When is the first day of school?  Wednesday, August 31, 2022.

Chromebook Insurance: You Can Renew When You Enter the Parent Portal on Thursday

Many parents have reached out to us to ask about Chromebook Insurance.  We are happy to report that our low-cost Chromebook Insurance program is WELL worth the annual renewal fee ($25 per year).  If you’ve got kids, then you already know there’s always the potential for something to happen to the Chromebook during the year: cracked screen, broken hinges, water damage, just to name a few.  Do yourself a favor. Purchase the insurance – it will give you peace of mind and save you a lot of aggravation when something goes wrong.  You can renew your insurance right on your Parent Portal account when you first sign in next Thursday.  If you have any questions, please contact our BIDS dept. at (203) 783-3446.

When is Kindergarten ‘Meet and Greet’?  Tuesday, August 30, 2022; 2:00 – 3:00 p.m.

‘Save the Date’ cards went out a few weeks ago – and all of the details were on the card relating to what you can expect.   We can’t wait to meet all of you!

When is the Pre-K ‘Meet and Greet’?  Tuesday, August 30, 2022; 1:00 – 1:45 p.m.

Similar ‘Save the Date’ cards were mailed this week to our Pre-K families – so watch for them!  As with the K cards, details about what to expect are on the cards.  Looking forward to meeting all of our ‘littles.’
