Milford Public Schools (MPS) is proud to announce that educator Christine Bouchard has been awarded the prestigious Connecticut Science Teaching Association (CSTA) Lifetime Achievement Distinguished Educator Award.
This honor is reserved for individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary, long-term commitment to science education in Connecticut, recognizing those who have selflessly volunteered their time and effort to advance the field and benefit countless students and fellow educators across the state.
Ms. Bouchard has been a cornerstone of the Milford Public Schools community for over 30 years. Since 1994, she has developed and taught a wide variety of science courses, consistently bringing her deep passion for the subject into the classroom.
Beyond the classroom, Ms. Bouchard’s leadership has profoundly shaped the educational landscape. She served as the District Science Coordinator and Science Department Chair at Jonathan Law High School, spearheading program planning, curriculum alignment, and professional learning. Her work on MPS's Teacher Effectiveness and Performance Evaluation Committee helped craft the frameworks that support and assess teacher growth district-wide. Ms. Bouchard’s expertise also extended statewide; in 2013, she served on the Connecticut State Department of Education's NGSS Content Review Committee, directly helping to shape the science standards taught across the state.
Ms. Bouchard’s impact extends far beyond academic instruction, reflecting a deep personal investment in her students' holistic development. As the adviser to Jonathan Law High School’s Environmental Club, she guided student leaders to secure grants for native gardens and work with local legislators to reduce cafeteria Styrofoam use. She also mentored students as the National Honor Society adviser and participated in Milford’s Relay for Life events to support student-led fundraising for cancer research.
“There are educators who teach science, and then there are educators like Christine Bouchard, who embody the very spirit of discovery, mentorship, and lifelong service,” noted Jonathan Law High School Assistant Principal Amy Farotti, who credits Ms. Bouchard as a vital mentor and nominated her for this award.
“We congratulate Christine Bouchard on this well-deserved lifetime achievement award and thank her for more than 30 years of unwavering service to our schools, students, and community,” added Superintendent Dr. Anna Cutaia. “Her dedication in and out of the classroom represents the very best of what an educator can be.”
