Our Grade 2 and 3 teachers, coaches, resource teachers, principals, and supervisors participated in professional learning focused on orthography and language structure — how English spelling patterns, sounds, and word parts work together to support strong reading and writing. This work helps us ensure that instruction is consistent across classrooms and that students benefit from the repetition and practice they need to build solid foundational literacy skills.
As part of our structured literacy approach, all students receive UFLI decodable texts and accompanying parent letters. These materials give families a window into what students are learning in school and offer simple ways to support reading at home. The routine of practicing these texts reinforces accuracy, confidence, and independence.
With this professional learning, we are building strong, consistent literacy experiences districtwide. We are so grateful for our Board of Education who helps support these opportunities, and are excited to continue strengthening foundational reading for every child.
