Milford Public Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Thomas Zenowitz to the role of Pupil Personnel Services Director, effective August 11.
With over 15 years of experience, Mr. Zenowitz has built a comprehensive career in education, supporting students, families, and staff. His background includes serving as a social worker for multiple districts, Assistant Special Education Department Leader for Southington Public Schools, and Assistant Director of Special Services at Ansonia Public Schools.
In his most recent role at Ansonia, Mr. Zenowitz oversaw a comprehensive Pre-K through Transition special education program. He was responsible for identifying, proposing, and managing out-of-district placements and led the development of systems to support high-quality instruction and services for students with disabilities.
He took initiative and co-facilitated the district-wide Social-Emotional Learning committee, and collaborated with instructional coaches and building leaders to use data-driven instructional rounds that provided targeted feedback aligned to district expectations for high-quality teaching. In doing so, he helped establish a culture of reflective practice by supporting the implementation of peer observations and collaborative planning sessions, where educators analyzed student work and used formative data to inform instruction.
Mr. Zenowitz began his career in 2007 as a social worker for New Canaan Public Schools. He later held similar roles at Indian Mountain School, a boarding school in Lakeville, Conn, and Southington Public Schools. While in those roles, he provided counseling to special education and regular education students, designed and implemented curriculum, facilitated groups for students in grades 9-12, and located community resources for students/families served by the school system.
With a strong foundation in both student-facing roles and administrative roles, Mr. Zenowitz brings a valuable dual perspective to his leadership. He understands both the operational and relational aspects of supporting students with disabilities, from early childhood through transition age. He has worked closely with teachers, support staff, and administrators to build inclusive, student-centered classrooms and has led district-wide initiatives to enhance instructional practices and ensure general education teachers are equipped to meet diverse student needs.
Mr. Zenowitz received his Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development Family Studies (2005) and a Master of Arts in Social Work (2007), and a Sixth-Year degree and certification in educational leadership (2021), from Quinnipiac University.
“I am honored to join Milford Public Schools as Director of Pupil Personnel Services and excited to support the success of all students,” Mr. Zenowitz said. “I look forward to working collaboratively with families, staff, and the community to ensure every student is supported academically, socially, and emotionally. Together, we will build on the district’s strong foundation and keep students at the heart of everything we do. I look forward to meeting everyone as I join the Milford community."
“We are excited to welcome Mr. Zenowitz to Milford Public Schools and look forward to the leadership, knowledge, and commitment he will bring to the Department of Pupil Personnel Services,” Superintendent Dr. Anna Cutaia shared.
