Milford Public Schools is pleased to announce that Lisa Swanson will assume the role of Principal of East Shore Middle School. She has served as Interim Principal since February.
Mrs. Swanson is a familiar face at Milford Public Schools. With a career spanning over three decades in the district, she brings a wealth of experience to her new role. She has experience as a teacher and an educational leader, beginning her career in the classroom in 1994 as a math teacher at Foran High School. Her passion for teaching and learning quickly propelled her into leadership roles, where she has made a lasting impact on curriculum, instruction, and student achievement.
In 2012, Mrs. Swanson transitioned into a leadership role as the PK-12 Supervisor of Mathematics and Business for the district, where she led the development of the Computer Science and Entrepreneurship and Business Management Pathways, expanding opportunities for students to explore careers in emerging fields.
Since 2019, Mrs. Swanson has served as the 6-12 Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Instructional Supervisor. In this role, she reviewed, revised, and developed district curriculum to ensure alignment with state and national standards. Mrs. Swanson also provided support to teachers and administrators, by mentoring new educators, guiding hiring processes, and managing department budgets. She also played a key role in writing and overseeing the Perkins Grant, a federal initiative that supports Career and Technical Education, and led the district’s Perkins Advisory Council.
Her collaborative leadership style and deep instructional knowledge have consistently supported improved student outcomes and empowered educators throughout the district. A passionate advocate for both students and teachers, Mrs. Swanson brings to East Shore a leadership philosophy rooted in partnership.
Mrs. Swanson graduated from Marymount College in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Secondary Education. She went on to earn a Master of Science degree in Special Education from Southern Connecticut State University in 2000 and a Master of Arts Degree in Thinking and Learning from The Graduate Institute in 2010. She also earned her Educational Leadership Certification from Quinnipiac University in 2013.
An active member of the learning community, Mrs. Swanson is a member of several organizations including the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics, Connecticut Council of Leaders of Mathematics, Association of Teachers of Mathematics in Connecticut, International Society for Technology in Education, and the Connecticut Council of Science Teachers.
