Amanda Marshall Named Principal of The Academy in Milford Public Schools

MILFORD – The Milford Public Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Amanda Marshall as the new principal of The Academy.  Ms. Marshall joins us from the Bridgeport Public Schools where she served as an assistant principal and as a school counselor in the district..  Ms. Marshall will begin her post in Milford on March 5, 2024.

Marshall started her work life in 2000 in the private sector as a sales professional and assistant manager of Paraco Gas Corporation. While there, she handled a wide variety of responsibilities, from cold calling leads, scheduling deliveries, participating and setting up trade shows and other marketing events and much more.  Early in her time at Paraco, Marshall was intent on continuing her education and ultimately received her Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Sacred Heart University in 2006. Continuing her education while also fulfilling her duties at work, Marshall received a Master of Arts degree in school counseling from Fairfield University in 2013.  In 2016, she earned a sixth year certificate (092) in the area of Educational Leadership from SHU and, today, is working on completing her doctorate in Educational Leadership through Capella University.

In 2013, Marshall started her career as a professional educator when she took a position as a long-term substitute school counselor at four different schools in the Bridgeport system.  After one year, she was offered a full time school counselor position at High Horizons Magnet School (PK-8).  She spent the next seven years at the school, providing support in the area of individual and group counseling for academic and social/emotional needs for 460 students.  In this role, Marshall was deeply involved with students, parents, and colleagues with much emphasis on truancy, chronic absenteeism, and establishing strong relationships with everyone in the school community, especially important during the global pandemic.

Since 2021, Marshall has served as the assistant principal for High Horizons Magnet School and for Multicultural Magnet School (K-6) in Bridgeport.  Her work has spanned all responsibilities for this role, including scheduling, management of the ESSER grants for both schools, supporting students in restorative behavior practices, and deep collaboration with families, staff and community partners.  She served as the chairperson of the Scientific Research Based Intervention executive teams and was named Staff Person of the Year in 2023 at Multicultural Magnet School.

Ms. Marshall commented, “I firmly believe that all stakeholders should be involved in the education process and I feel for that to happen, the administrator needs to facilitate relationships between the school and families, as well as the community.  I am grateful for this new opportunity and I look forward to engaging with all of my future partners at The Academy.”

Dr. Anna Cutaia, Superintendent of Schools, commented,  “I’m looking forward to having Ms. Marshall join the incredible professional team at the Academy.  She brings the right balance of focusing on relationships with students, staff and parents while at the same time ensuring we support our young people to achieve at high levels with a focus on their next steps in their lives.”
