breaking news early dismissal

Dear Parents/Guardians and Staff Members,

Due to the extreme heat and humidity expected this week, all Milford Public Schools will have an early dismissal on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 and Thursday, September 7, 2023. Lunch will still be served on both days. Afterschool professional learning for staff is canceled.

Early dismissal for Milford Public Schools will follow the schedule below:

Elementary School: 1:25 p.m. (including Ready to Learn)

Middle School: 12:45 p.m.

Jonathan Law/Joseph Foran HS: 11:58 a.m.

The Academy: 11:00 a.m.

There will be no afternoon preschool classes scheduled.  If you have a child in an after-school program located in one of our schools, the childcare program will be closed.

We will continue with modified after-school athletic programs. Athletes will engage in low exertion activities, wear light loose-fitting clothing, take frequent breaks, and drink extra water.  Our coaches will closely monitor our athletes to help ensure everyone’s health during after school activities.

Please note that students and staff are reminded to wear light, loose-fitting clothing and to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated for the time that they are in school.  All schools will allow for frequent water breaks and will activate cooling protocols in their buildings. Here are some recommendations from the Milford Health Department for handling extreme heat in our region.

Thank you for your patience and support.

Sincerely,

Anna Cutaia, Ed. D.

Superintendent
