Dear Parents/Guardians and Staff Members,

The current air quality situation due to the wildfires in Canada has impacted much of the Northeast for the past several days.  As you may know, we are in the midst of many end-of-year activities taking place across the district such as, but not limited to, field days and Moving Up outdoor activities. To help keep students and staff safe while still being able to enjoy these events, we have put some protocols in place with the assistance of the Milford Health Department.

As of this writing, we are limiting the amount of strenuous activity outdoors to the extent possible at these events and students will be given additional indoor breaks.  This will minimize student/staff exposure to the outdoor environment and strenuous events, but still give kids a chance to participate in these activities.

In addition, students with documented underlying health conditions will be more closely monitored throughout the day and in the days ahead until the air quality issue improves.

We will continue to closely monitor this matter throughout the day.  If further restrictions are needed as the day progresses, that information will be shared with you.

We recognize these end-of-year activities are highly anticipated by everyone each year, but we also must do what is best for our students, our staff, and our community.  Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Anna Cutaia, Ed. D.

Superintendent
