WS News!

Dear West Shore Families,

It was great to have a full week of school this week, even with one delay mixed in! Walking through the building, it has been wonderful to see students engaged in meaningful learning across classrooms. Thank you for the continued support you provide at home to help keep our students focused and ready to learn each day.

I hope everyone enjoys the weekend, and with a little luck we may even see some warmer weather next week!

Congratulations to Ellen Connors

Please join us in congratulating Ellen Connors, who was nominated by the West Shore Middle School PTA for the National PTA Lifetime Achievement Award—and she won! This award is the highest honor from the nation’s largest child advocacy organization and recognizes individuals who demonstrate an outstanding commitment to supporting children and families. We are proud to celebrate this recognition of Ellen’s dedication to our school community.

PTA Paint Night

The PTA-sponsored Paint Night on March 5th was a great success! Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the evening so enjoyable. A special thank you to our PTA for organizing such a fun and creative evening for our community.

Student Council School Dance

Permission slips for the upcoming school dance were distributed to students last week. All permission slips and dance money must be returned by Friday, March 13. We’re looking forward to a fun evening for our students on Friday, March 27.

Parent Conference Reminders

Families can access the online conference scheduling system, MyConferenceTime, starting Wednesday, March 4 after 9:00 AM through Monday, March 16 at 12:00 PM.

Accessing the system:

  • Go to the West Shore Middle School website and click on “Spring Conference – Click here to Sign-Up” and follow the directions.

  • Quick tip: Look for emails from noreply@myconferencetime.com when searching your email for conference confirmation messages.

Additional information:

  • All conferences will be in person, unless a parent/guardian requests a Google Meet link directly from the teacher.

  • If you prefer a virtual conference, please contact the teacher after scheduling your time through MyConferenceTime to request a Google Meet link.

Scheduling guidelines:

  • Due to limited slots available per teacher, families are asked to limit their selections to:

    • Two core teachers per student (Math, Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, Spanish, or French)

    • Three Unified Arts teachers (Physical Education, Art, Music, Technology Education, or Health)

If you would like to meet with additional teachers or the entire team, please contact the teacher or team directly to schedule a mutually agreed upon time during the school day outside of the conference dates.

Parents/guardians may also schedule conferences with the guidance counselor, social worker, school psychologist, speech and language staff, and special education teachers through the MyConferenceTime system.

World Language Assessment (AAPPL)

Students in grade 8 world language classes will participate in the AAPPL (Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages) from March 9–13. This assessment measures students’ ability to use a language in real-life situations and evaluates reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. Our world language teachers have been preparing students and will administer the assessment during class.

Upcoming Dates

  • March 12 – WAVE Parent Engagement Night at Shelton Sports Complex

  • March 13 – Dance permission slips and money due

  • March 27 – West Shore School Dance

Thank you for your continued support of our students and the West Shore community.

Warmly,

Carrie Keramis

Principal, West Shore Middle School
