WSMS

Dear West Shore Families,

We hope you and your family enjoy the upcoming long weekend. As we move toward the close of the marking period, we’d like to share a few important updates and highlights from around the building.

The current marking period ends on January 21, and teachers will be finalizing grades shortly thereafter. Grades will be available by February 4.

Student Learning

Across classrooms, students continue to engage in learning experiences that emphasize understanding the standards, independent thinking, and meaningful discussion. Teachers are using purposeful wait time and targeted supports to ensure students are appropriately challenged and supported.

PTA

We held a PTA meeting this past Wednesday and are grateful for the continued partnership of our PTA members. The PTA has many exciting plans in the works for the winter and spring. See the PTA updates below for a few.

Student Leadership Conference

Today, fifteen West Shore students participated in a Student Leadership Conference at Southern Connecticut State University as part of our Sidekick Program. Students collaborated with peers from across the state and took part in sessions focused on developing leadership skills and student voice.

NAEP Assessment

On February 17, fifty eighth-grade students from West Shore Middle School will participate in the 2026 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP). NAEP is a Congressionally mandated assessment that measures student achievement in subjects such as reading, math, and science and helps inform education at the national, state, and district levels. Families of selected students will receive a letter shortly.

Yearbook Information

Yearbooks are still available for purchase at a cost of $45. Families may pay online, by cash, or by check. Eighth-grade families also have the opportunity to submit a booster ad message to celebrate their student. Additional details were recently shared by Mrs. Donini.

Ski Club

This week marked the second Ski Club trip to Mount Southington. Students enjoyed a fun afternoon on the slopes, even with the cold temperatures. Thank you to our staff members who continue to organize and supervise these experiences for our students.

  • January 21 – End of Marking Period
