WS News!

Dear West Shore Families,

Happy New Year, and welcome back! We hope your family had time to rest, recharge, and enjoy the winter break. It has been wonderful to welcome students back to West Shore and see how quickly they have settled into learning routines. Our classrooms are buzzing with engagement, curiosity, and collaboration, and we are off to a strong start in 2026.

IXL Update

All students continue to have recommended skills assigned on IXL, which they work on during Academic Support (ASA). As of this week, West Shore students have completed over 573,000 IXL questions, and we are working toward an exciting goal of 1 million questions completed.

NAEP Assessment

On February 17, fifty eighth-grade students from West Shore Middle School will participate in the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), often referred to as The Nation’s Report Card. This nationally recognized assessment measures student achievement in areas such as reading, math, and science and helps inform educational practices at the national and state levels. We are proud of our students for representing West Shore in this important effort, and families of selected students will receive additional information soon.

Student Leadership Field Trip

We are excited to share that fifteen West Shore student leaders will attend a Student Leadership Conference at Southern Connecticut State University on Friday, January 16. This opportunity is an extension of the leadership development work happening through our Sidekick Program, allowing students to collaborate with peers from across the state while strengthening leadership skills, teamwork, and confidence. Families of participating students will receive trip details shortly.

Yearbook Update

Yearbook sales are ongoing, and families may submit payment online, with cash, or by check. Please note that the deadline for submitting baby photos has passed. Information about booster ad submissions to celebrate our eighth-grade students will be shared soon.

Ski Club

West Shore Ski Club kicked off its first trip of the season this week at Mount Southington, where students enjoyed great snow and a fun afternoon on the slopes. We look forward to additional trips throughout the winter season.
