WS News!

Dear West Shore Families,

It’s been an exciting and busy week at West Shore! We were fortunate to welcome several visitors to our school, including Officer Cox from the Milford Police Department and his police dog, Winston, who met with some of our counseling classes to talk about law enforcement careers.

WS News!

Our 8th graders also had a special opportunity to hear from Milford’s two mayoral candidates. Each candidate spoke about local issues and answered thoughtful questions from students. It was a great lesson in civic engagement—thank you to Mr. Acri for organizing this meaningful experience.

Our teachers and students have been deeply engaged in classroom learning, and Thursday’s Advisory session sparked some thoughtful conversations about respect and responsibility. We are proud of the way our students continue to grow both academically and socially each day.

Marking Period Reminder

The first marking period ends on October 31. Now is a great time to check in on your child’s progress in PowerSchool and reach out to teachers with any questions or concerns.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on:
📅 Wednesday, October 15 (5:30–8:00 PM)
📅 Thursday, October 16 (1:05–3:05 PM)

We look forward to connecting with you to discuss your child’s growth and progress. Many families have already signed up—thank you! Conference sign-up information can be found on the school website.

After School Activities

After school activities begin the week of October 13! These programs give students a chance to explore their interests, connect with peers, and have fun after the school day. We encourage every student to get involved and make the most of these opportunities.

WAVE Program

We are excited to announce that West Shore received a grant from the State Department of Education to continue our WAVE after school program, beginning October 20. WAVE provides a supportive after school environment where students can get homework help and participate in enriching activities such as Art, Basketball, Newspaper Writing, Board Games, and Coding. Applications went home earlier this week.

Monday, October 13th, is PINK DAY at West Shore Middle School! All students and staff are invited to wear pink and donate $1 (or more) to the Norma Pfriem Breast Center at Bridgeport Hospital.

Donations can be made in homeroom on Monday or online. In addition to the fundraiser, WTNH Meteorologist Joe Furey and Mayor Tony Giannattasio will visit students to show their support. Mrs. Connors will be giving out small prizes all day to students who participate.

All funds raised by WSMS will go directly to the Center to continue to provide medical excellence and compassionate care to ALL women, regardless of their ability to pay.

Norma Pfriem Breast Center was the first freestanding community breast center in Connecticut to offer one-stop coordination of care, patient navigation, and rapid diagnosis. Norma Pfriem Breast Center is one of only 500 centers nationwide accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers and is a member of the prestigious National Consortium of Breast Care Centers.
