Parent-Teacher Conferences

We are pleased to announce our Fall 2021 High School Virtual Conference Schedule: 

Wednesday, October 20th  5:30-8:00 p.m.    

Thursday, October 21st  1:00-3:00 p.m.    

 Parents will have access to the site directly from the Foran website

Site will be open October 8th at 9:00 a.m. through October 18th at 12:00 pm.

Schedules are set in 10 minute increments

Parents will be able to cancel and reschedule their own conferences through 

Monday, October 18 at 12 pm.  

After that time, they will need to contact the teacher to change their conference date/time.

*Please note that we will have a modified early dismissal time on the conference days to accommodate the conference schedule.  

Therefore, students will be dismissed on

 October 20th and October 21st at 11:48 am.



Attendance Reminders:

Please report your student absent from school using the Attendance Absence Form located in PowerSchool.  If you would like to have your student's absence excused, written documentation needs to be sent in to the main office within 10 days of the absence.  This can be a signed note from a parent regarding the absence (due to extenuating circumstance) or a note confirming the absence by a licensed medical professional.  If you need to dismiss your student early, written notification needs to be provided.  This can be in the form of a note signed by a parent or guardian or an email to Nicole Cadigan at ncadigan@milforded.org.  Thank you!

The Numeracy Support Center at Foran is available during every period of the day and one of Foran's math teachers is there to help students with any mathematical questions. Students can drop in to Numeracy at any time during their study hall, no appointment needed. They can stay for as little or as long as they need to get their work done. All students need is a pass from their subject teacher to come and receive help on homework assignments, SAT prep, or anything else math related.   The Numeracy Center is located in room 329 before you enter green hall.

The Literacy Support Center at Foran is open for business and strongly encourages students to come for any needed extra help in English, Social Studies or Science. The center is manned by an English teacher every period of the day. In addition, Mrs. Dion, our resident writing tutor, will be with us. If you need help with note taking, annotation, essay revision etc. this is the place to come. The center is located in room 239 at the end of yellow hall.

Please email Mrs. Wunder all community service forms by Friday, October 1st. Students may also drop off paper copies in the school counseling office. 

 

College Essay Help

Attention seniors looking for help with their college essay. Please email Mrs. Wunder to set up an appointment for one on one essay help. Ms. Dion will be assisting students in the literacy center.

 

College Virtual Visits

Attention seniors! College representatives will be hosting virtual visits for Foran students beginning on September 17th. Students can sign up for visits and see a complete list of participating colleges in Naviance under “What's New”. Please email Mrs. Wunder with any questions or for sign-up help.

 

 

Students participated in a baby photo contest that introduces the concept of growth and development over time. They reflected on who they are now and what influences have shaped their overall growth and development.

Help support research for childhood cancer!

Foran will be supporting Alex's Lemonade stand this year!

Please send in $1 (or more) for a paper lemon.

Collections will be taken in Common Time on September 17th and 20th. Collections will also be taken at the FIRST HOME FOOTBALL GAME FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 17th, 2021!

All proceeds will be used to provide better treatments to children with cancer. The money also supports families dealing with childhood cancer.

HELP US AND GO GOLD IN SEPTEMBER!

 

 

Students in Ms. DePalma and Mrs. O'Keefe's English classes are working on a Harlem Renaissance Escape Room.  Students are learning about the time period and major writers, musicians and artists who contributed to this movement.  They had to read, find clues, and solve the puzzle to win the Escape Room.

 

 

Ms. Jones' English 2 class is learning about famous poet Langston Hughes and his poem "Harlem"!

 

 Ms. Green’s 9th graders stopped in the TLC for some book talks and to begin their independent reading projects today. Looking forward to working with them!

 

 

 

AP Research

AP Research students have begun generating topic ideas for their research investigation!  We’ve learned about disciplines and choosing that topic that will excite and engage us throughout the year!  Some amazing ideas have been shared, and we’re looking forward to our student researchers beginning their inquiry based investigation!


US History students practice debate skills today by arguing whether we should use hand dryers or paper towels.

 



Students in AP US History portraying the role of colonial “travel agents” attempting to get different colonial settlers to visit and settle in the various colonies. Students analyzed the social, economic, religious, geographic and political benefits and drawbacks of each region.


With the 20th Anniversary of 9/11, students in United States History make memorial drawings to honor all lost ones.

Introduction to Business students in Mrs. Cacioppo’s class learned about economic resources and researched the process on how to create a product of their choice. Students detailed the production process while specifying whether the resource is a natural, human or capital resource.

There will be a preseason girls basketball meeting on Thursday September 23rd for anyone who is interested in trying out this year.  The meeting will be brief and will take place in the gym starting at 2:30.  Everyone planning on trying out is expected to attend, if you can't make it please email Coach Asmussen at rasmussen@milforded.org.


The Foran High School Athletic Department and The Foran Sports Booster Club have teamed up to honor a deserving varsity athlete each week of the season throughout the 2021-2022 school year. Each recipient will be recognized for their performance in the “Friday News” and they will also receive a tee shirt.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK      

        

Senior Captain, Basit Iddriss has been named Foran High School’s “Athlete of the Week”, for his outstanding performance in Soccer. In the opening game of the season, Basit scored 3 goals and assisted on another. Foran defeated Amistad 7-0.  Congratulations Basit!


Football

Foran beat Lyman Hall 43-18 on Friday 9/10 in Wallingford CT.  Offensively the Lions were led by quarterback Jack Cushman who threw for 225 yards and 4 touchdowns.  On the receiving end of those touchdowns were Joe Gaetano (2) and Dean Ross (2).  AJ Edmond pitched in on the ground with 115 yards adding a score as well.  The Lions played well in the trenches on both sides of the ball, on defense AJ Edmond forced two fumbles, Dean Ross had an INT for a touchdown, Luca Ubaldi had an INT, and Kyle Zarnoch had an INT. Joe Gaetano, Aidan Grant, Maguire Casey, Jason Cruz, and Jacob Madarang pitched in each with QB sacks.  The Lions will open up at home with Branford this Friday September 17th @ 7:00 PM See you there!!

Girls Soccer

Last night, we began our season at North Haven High School.  The 1st half ended in a scoreless tie.  5 minutes into the 2nd half, North Haven scored their first and only goal of the game.  In a span of close to 10 minutes, we answered with 3 goals.  Zoe Fallon scored off a beautiful pass from Courtney Musante who also assisted on a goal by Colleen Ardolino.  Our third goal was by Taylor LaFountain off a nicely played ball by Katherine McTigue.  Our goalkeeper, Hanna Della Bitta-Falkowski had 4 saves on the night.

Volleyball

Last weekend Foran Volleyball had their first games of the season at the First Serve tournament at Stamford High School. On Friday, we played Stamford High School. In a tight match, we lost 3-0, 31-29, 25-19, 26-24. Kaitlyn Beaupre had 7 kills, Ava Steigbigel had 6 kills and Chloe Nittoly had 8 assists. Tori Matula had 6 aces and Morgan Viesselman had 7 digs.

On Saturday, we played Brien McMahon. We lost 3-0. Ava Steigbigel had 3 kills and Tori Matula had 13 digs. 

Ava Steigbigel and Morgan Viesselman made the All-Tournament Team. 

Boys Cross Country

The boys cross country team had their first invitational in Simsbury at Stratton Brook Park this past Saturday 9/11 where they took 9th place overall. Their first divisional meet of the season took place on Tuesday 9/14 at Eisenhower Park where they went up against Fairfield Prep, Amity, and Branford. Foran lost in a close match to both Branford and Amity, but ended up with a win over Prep. Notable finishes for this race were Nate Huebner who came in 4th place overall with a time of 18:24, Damon Downs 8th place overall with a time of 19:17, Max Newton 11th place overall with a time of 19:36, and Kevin Chen 13th overall with a time of 19:43. The boys look toward their next divisional meet on Tuesday, 9/21 at Wharton Brook State Park where they will take on North Haven, Hamden, and Sheehan.

Girls Cross Country

The girls' cross country team took on Lauralton Hall, Amity, and Branford at Eisenhower Tuesday afternoon. The girls took third place overall in a close race - losing by 3 points to Lauralton, but taking down Branford by 21 points. Anna Harris took fourth overall with a time of 22:58. She was followed by freshman Adrianna Gonzalez who ran her first dual meet in 24:42 with sophomore Nora Hayes right behind her at 25:07. Upperclassmen, Quincy Ercanbrack and Grace Foley rounded out the scoring group joining the others in the top 20 spots. The girls race at North Haven next Tuesday against Hamden and Sheehan. Go lady lions!

Swimming & Diving

The Lady Lions got off to a big splash this season in their opener against West Haven. Both swimmers and divers commanded the competition winning the meet 98-80. Notable events included Ellen Pan winning both the 200IM and the 100Backstroke qualifying for States in both events. Other State qualifiers include Emma Fiorillo in the 100 Breaststroke and Kaleigh Morton in the 100 Butterfly. Riley Grunow took home the win in the diving event. And a special shoutout to Sam Mauro for swimming three tough back-to-back events and coming from behind in the 500 Freestyle to clinch 2nd place! The Lions also swam powerhouse Cheshire this week and faced some tough competition. Cheshire took the win 99-80 and though a loss, great efforts were had by Seniors Grace Tavitian and Ava Candido who stepped up to the plate for their team and put in some great swims. The Lions are now looking ahead to their first home meet against Daniel Hand on Friday!

***Athletes are able to order jackets if they have earned 6 points and will reach 8 points within the next school year.***
