Family Input for Class Placement for 2022-23 - As the end of our school year draws near, so does our planning for grouping students into new classrooms for the 2022-2023 school year.  Our objective is to meet every student’s needs, while creating the most balanced groups possible.  We will address each child’s social, emotional, physical and academic needs, as well as learning style.  We will also consider gender balance, range of abilities, students benefiting from being together or separated, and class size.  The placement decisions will be made by a faculty team consisting of classroom teachers, instructional coaches, resource teachers, the social worker, the psychologist, School counselor and the principal.  This process requires multiple meetings to make the best possible placements.

Your input to this process is also valuable.  I have provided a google form that will give you the opportunity to contribute to our placement decisions.  The placement teams will read and consider all information provided.  Please provide details as to your child’s learning style, strengths, challenges, interests, and any other information you feel would be pertinent to class placement. The process is complex, and it would be impossible to honor all requests.

If you would like us to consider your input as we place your child, the information must be received by May 15th.  Once the process is started, and balanced classes are created, it will be too late to add your input.

Preliminary class lists developed by the end of the school year may change over the summer as new students enroll and current students move out of the Calf Pen Meadow  community.  Therefore, classroom assignments for the 2022– 2023 school year will not be finalized until the end of the summer and will be available through PowerSchool in August. Assignments will not be given before that time.  We ask that you honor the time and effort put forth by our staff in organizing each of the class lists.  Changes in class assignments will not be made once placements are made available to students and parents. The staff takes this process very seriously and will review all information in a professional manner.  This work will contribute to creating a positive classroom environment for all of our students.  Thank you for your input and cooperation.

Library Book Returns- As the year begins to wind down, we are working to collect library books that have been checked out to students this year.  Bins will be placed around the school for students to return books and reminder slips will be sent home to students who have books checked out.  Please take time to look through your house and bookshelves to ensure library books are returned!  The last day that students can check out books from our school library is Friday, June 3.   Thank you!  The Library Media Team

DRILLS:  Conducting emergency drills (fire, crisis, lockdown, etc.) is one of the most important ways we help keep students and staff safe during an emergency. Drills allow us to practice what we need to do when an emergency arises in our school. This year, Milford Public Schools will incorporate COVID-19 health and safety practices during these drills.  During an actual emergency, however, evacuation and safety are the school district's first priorities and social distancing only will be enforced once students and staff are in a safe location.

Next week Calf Pen Meadow School will be conducting a crisis drill. This will only be a drill and will be conducted in accordance with the School Incident Management Protocols established by

the district, and in collaboration with our local first responders. Students engaged in distance learning for the day of the drill will not participate in the drill, but live meet schedules may be adjusted for this day.

Please discuss the importance of our emergency drills with your children.  We thank you for your cooperation and partnership with keeping our schools safe!

Congratulations to the Milford Teacher of the Year 2022 -

Marisa Perce!
