Birthday Parties in the Classroom -- and Other Food-Related Policies
As some of you may know from previous years, there are many children at Orchard Hills School who have severe food allergies. These include life threatening allergies to peanuts, tree nuts and their by-products, as well as other serious allergies to non-food items, such as latex-based products. As a result, we must maintain our diligence and monitor what our children bring in to the classroom and lunch room. No outside food is to be brought into the lunch/class room. Food may be purchased if you are visiting during lunch from the daily lunch menu offered to the children.
All classrooms at Orchard Hills are designated as 'peanut free' zones. Snacks brought in by students to be consumed during snack time may not contain any peanuts or peanut by-products.
For students with peanut or other food sensitivities, we reserve a section of the cafeteria as a 'Peanut Free Zone.' Students with allergies may eat their lunch in this peanut free area. It is important for you to explain to your child it is very important that they NOT share any of their lunch or snack foods with other children while at school. Although well-intentioned, this could lead to a life-threatening reaction. Please help us keep our school safe for everyone.
Lunch visits are limited to three (3) times per year, and lunch for parents and their child will be held in Room 4 during the childs lunch wave.
Keeping with the food safety issue, please know WE DO NOT ALLOW ANY FOOD ITEMS to be brought into the classroom for birthdays or other parties. As an alternative, parents may bring in non-food party favors, craft items, favorite games, music for dancing, etc. We encourage creativity -- but we do ask you to please check with your child’s teacher in advance of making any party plans.
Thank you for understanding and complying with our school protocol.
