My name is Mrs. Meghan Cummings and this is my twenty second year of teaching in Milford. My husband Michael was the Assistant Superintendent of Schools here in Milford, but is now the Assistant Superintendent of the Fairfield Public Schools. Together we have 5 wonderful children. Our daughter Maggie is a Junior at Foran, our son Joshua is in 8th grade at Harborside, Matthew is in fifth grade this year at Orange Avenue School, and Keane (rhymes with "bean") is in third grade at Orange Avenue School. Our daughter Grace is joining her brothers at OAS as she begins Kindergarten this year!
Growing up, I always considered a career in education, but I also loved language. I am from Westchester County, NY, so I decided to go to a state school for college. I chose SUNY Oswego, where I majored in French and Psychology, with a minor in Spanish. Weird to major in language at Oswego, which has always been known for its Teacher's College, but out of all the SUNY's, it had the best foreign language department. My advisor advised me to pursue my degrees in French and Psych and then to get my Masters in Teaching, since a masters degree would be required anyway. I followed her sage advice and earned my bachelor degrees in French and Psychology while at Oswego, then I earned my Masters of Science in Teaching from Pace University. After passing my state exams in NY and in CT, I was hired by the Milford Board of Education. I taught fourth grade for two years at Meadowside School and fifth grade at JFK for 12 years. The restructuring of the district brought me to fifth grade here at Pumpkin Delight and I've been very happy here! I have high expectations of effort, responsibility, and respect. I strongly believe in student achievement in terms of academic progress, citizenship, and social growth. Together we can enable each child to successfully meet and even exceed these expectations as partners in education. I look forward to working with you this year!
