Teacher Information

Hello!  My name is Cathleen Buckheit and I am very excited to once again be part of
the Kindergarten team here at Orchard Hills School.  I began my teaching career working in
West Haven at Mackrille Elementary, a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, where
for 2 years I taught Half-Day Kindergarten.  At the end of my second year of
teaching I was laid off due to budgetary cuts which brought me to Milford. I
was a long-term substitute teacher in Milford during the 2006-2007 school
year.  I officially joined the Orchard Hills School staff during the 2007-
2008 school year where I had remained in kindergarten until the end of the
2009-2010 school year.  With all of the recent changes due to budgets and
district reconfigurations, I was moved to Mathewson for the 2010-2011 school
year where I taught Supported Kindergarten.  Due to budget cuts, class sizes
and teacher displacements I moved to Meadowside where I taught 3rd grade for the 2011-2012 school year.  I moved yet again and began teaching 1st grade at Mathewson for the 2012-2013 & 2013-2014 school year.  For the 2014-2015 school year I switched back to teaching Kindergarten at Mathewson.  Now I have finally journied all the way back to Orchard Hills School ( and intend to stay put!!!) and am very excited to begin my 12th year of teaching.
I love to read, travel, Irish Step Dance, and pin things on Pinterest.  I am very active in the New Haven Irish Community.  I am a member of the New Haven St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee and I am also the Vice-President of the West Haven Irish American Club.  I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Pyschology, both of which I
obtained while attending Southern Connecticut State Univeristy.  In 2010 I
received my Master of Arts degree in Holistic Thinking from The Graduate Institute. I got married in August of 2011 so every once in a while you will hear my other superhero name "Miss Steinau".  I had my first child in January of 2013, I am so lucky to have my little Liam (aka the Chunk)!  He is certainly the apple of my eye!! I am looking forward to this next chapter of my life and sharing it with my husband, Scott and my two step-daughters.
Previously, I worked in a bookstore for seven years in the
Children's Department so books are a great love of mine.  If you have a good
title please send it my way!  I am always on the look out for something new
and exciting to read with the class.
Please feel free to stop by Room 4 and say hello!
