Upcoming News & Events, 8/10 and Beyond


Happy Friday, All!


It seems the closer we get to the start of school, the more news we have to share in our Upcoming News & Events messaging!  Believe it or not, we are only 2 ½ weeks away.  Lots of important info this week – please read it carefully. 



This is, by far, the #1 piece of news our parents wait for all year.  The PARENT PORTAL will open next week!!  Here’s the schedule:


Thursday, August 16th:  Parent Portal Opens for Middle/High School student families

Friday, August 17th: Parent Portal Opens for Elementary student families


Why is This Important? What Can I Expect When I Log In?

The Parent Portal is the ‘powerhouse’ for everyone associated with the Milford Public Schools.  For starters, parents can find out their child’s 2018-19 classroom teacher assignments. Throughout the year, however, you will find this tool extremely helpful, as you can monitor your child’s grades, attendance, and much more.


There are a few things you will have to do before your account is officially ‘opened’ for the year. In order to activate your account for 2018-19, you will need to log in and do the following:


1. Review and Update your child’s EMERGENCY CARD.  Over the course of a year, lots of things change.  Maybe you got a new cell phone number? Moved? Need to change your emergency contact person?  Take a few moments a look at your EMERGENCY CARD carefully and update any information necessary. It will make life a lot easier … for all of us.


2. Answer a Few Questions.  There will be a few items (with check boxes) that you must answer in order to complete your activation (for example, acknowledgement of the Parent Student Handbook and the Free and Reduced Cost Lunch program).  Check the various boxes accordingly.


Test Your Account in the Days Leading Up to the Portal Opening

For those parents who already have an account, we suggest you test your username and password information before the portal officially opens.  You will receive a message The Parent Portal has been disabled for the Summer.  Your account is active and working. This confirms your account is in good working order. Then, wait for the Portal opening date and when it has been opened, you’ll be able to get right in.

Tuesday, Aug. 14th: Immunization Clinic – FREE, Milford Health Dept., 82 New Haven Ave., 2:30 – 4:30 p.m. Does your child need one or more immunizations to be compliant for the start of school in the Fall?  The Milford Health Dept. is pleased to announce a free immunization clinic will be held on Tuesday at their office (82 New Haven Avenue; downtown near the Library and the Fire Dept.) for students 18 years and younger.  No appointment necessary. Call the Health Dept. with any questions you may have at (203) 783-3285.


When Does School Start?

Monday, August 27th:  School starts for Grades 1-12

Wednesday, August 29th: School starts for Grades K & PK


Kindergarten and PK Orientation:  will be held Tuesday, August 28th.  Information has been sent to students’ homes with times and locations.


Friday, Aug. 17th & Saturday, Aug. 18th: The Annual Milford Oyster Festival:  We’ll provide a more detailed overview next week – but we couldn’t let this Upcoming News & Events installment go by without mentioning the premier event of the year for our wonderful city. Mark it on your calendar now!
