Hello Friends!

Happy Monday everyone – we hope you enjoyed a restful weekend. We are pleased to share the news of some great activities planned for the next few weeks.  Here we go!

Rec. Dept. “iCan Bike” Program Needs Volunteers for Aug. 6-10/Sign up ASAP:  Here’s another opportunity for high school students to volunteer for a truly terrific program – and get some community service hours at the same time.  The Rec. Department’s iCan Bike program teaches individuals with disabilities how to ride a conventional two-wheeled bicycle and become lifelong independent riders.  Every session is already full with students who want to learn this skill – but now we need a bunch more volunteers to make it happen

Each session is 75 minutes and will run for 5 days (Monday, Aug. 6th – Friday, Aug. 10th).  Volunteers must attend each day of the 75 minute session they sign up for (so, if you sign up for the 8:30 – 9:45 a.m. session – you must show up each day, M-F, at that time).  Volunteers are asked to serve as ‘spotters’ with riders – and to provide encouragement throughout the 5 days. The iCan Bike Program will take place in the Parsons Parking Lot (in front of the gym) from Monday, Aug. 6th through Friday, Aug. 10th

To sign up as a volunteer, please click HERE.  Thanks in advance for your community spirit!

Mr. Steve’s SteveSongs Concert on Tuesday, July 31st, 6:30 p.m., Fowler Field, FREE.  Steve Roslonek, known and loved by millions of families throughout the country as "Mr. Steve" and co-host of the nationally broadcast PBS KIDS, will bring his signature brand of seriously good (and seriously fun) music back to Milford for a rocking family show at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31 at Fowler Pavilion (behind the Milford Library).  Why not pack a picnic dinner, bring some lawn chairs – and enjoy this FREE event with your family!?

"Mr. Steve," has co-hosted mornings on PBS KIDS, which include shows like Curious George, Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood, The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That, Dinosaur Train, Super WHY! and Sesame Street.

If inclement weather should arrive, the show will be held in the Library.  Hope you enjoy the show.  And, thanks to the Mayor’s Office and the Milford Public Library for bringing this terrific event to Milford!  FLYER.

Saturday, August 4: ADULTING 101, Milford Public Library, 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., a variety of mini-sessions all day long – FREE.  If you know anyone in the 18-27 year old range, then THIS is an event they will want to attend!  ADULTING 101 has been designed to provide ‘life lessons’ for our newest adults (and maybe some established adults could pick up a thing or two, as well!).  Laundry? Cooking? Grocery Shopping? Cleaning? Furnishing your Home? Community Involvement?  Here is a sampling of sessions that are planned:  “Move Over Hello Fresh! DIY for Half the Price”, “Keep it Clean – Without a Maid”, “I Have My Own Money – Now What?”, “Decorating on a Dime”, “Why You Might Need a Lawyer”, “Unfollowed, Blocked, Reported: Online and Offline Personal Safety”, and much more.  ADULTING 101 will be presented by a great group of community members -- and is sure to be a lot of fun.  We hope to see you on Saturday at the MPL! SCHEDULE.

Tuesday, July 31:  Tuesday @ 2 Movie of the Week: GREASE, Milford Public Library, 2:00 p.m., FREE.

Got a case of the summertime boredom blues?  Why not take in a screening of the long-standing favorite GREASE?  Thanks to the Milford Public Library, the movie is free – and they even throw in FREE POPCORN!  Join us for an afternoon of fun.  Tuesday, July 31st, 2:00 p.m. Rating: PG-13.

And on tap for NEXT week:

Wednesday, Aug. 8th:  Don Civitello Memorial Plaque Presentation, @ Foran High School, 9:15 a.m., public invited

If you’ve lived in Milford for a while, there’s no doubt you know the name Don Civitello.  For 40 years, Don was a beloved teacher, coach, and administrator here in Milford, and a friend to all.  As many of you will remember, Don was the Director of our Pupil Personnel Services/Special Education for many years and was the founder of Camp Happiness, a summer camp for children with special needs.  Sadly, Don passed away last year.  As a way to acknowledge Don’s deep love for Milford and our children, we are honored to invite you to the dedication of a memorial plaque at Foran High School at 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday, August 8th.  All are welcome to attend this very special event.

Have a great week, everyone!
