Happy Friday --

Welcome back, friends!  This week brought us the debut of the Middle School Art Show, gracing our hallways in the Parsons building.  If you haven’t visited, c’mon over.  You will be impressed with the level of expertise demonstrated by our students.  And, starting next week, the first of many school-based Spring Concerts will begin.  We’re sure you will love what you hear!  Check out the SPRING ARTS SEASON poster prepared earlier this season for details.

Today we uploaded SEVEN new flyers to the Upcoming Events electronic bulletin board.  Do yourself a favor and check it out.  Lots of great things happening throughout the district and across Milford.

TONIGHT (and tomorrow) -- Jay Rowe’s ‘Smooth Jazz for Scholars’ Benefit Concert, Parsons Auditorium.  The night we’ve all been waiting for!  The SJFS benefit concert, now in its 17thyear, has resulted in the donation of more than $81,000 to the Milford Public Schools music department since its inception.  We are grateful for Jay’s benevolence and hope to see you at one – or both – shows!  See EVENTS, below, for times.

 

 

Be Internet Awesome – A special presentation for All of Us, thanks to Calf Pen Meadow!  Here’s some great news – and you’re invited!  The Calf Pen Meadow PTA applied for and won a $1,000 grant from Google & National PTA to host a very special workshop for parents:  Be Internet Awesome.  The workshop will provide information about digital safety and citizenship.  With our current rollout of Chromebooks to our students, this is the perfect opportunity to learn more about ‘digital life.’  Free resources, tips, and great information to be had, folks.  ALL ARE WELCOME to attend at Calf Pen, Monday, April 29th @ 6:15 p.m.! Dash for Danni 5K Run AND the all-new Wiffle Ball Bash, May 18th (but pre-registrations apply – see below):  We are honored to share the news that the Dash for Danni 5K Run is slated once again – this year it will be held on Saturday, May 18th – click on the FLYER to learn more about times and fees.  In addition to the Run, however, the folks at Foran High School have added a new element to the day – a Wiffle Ball Bash (IMPORTANT: deadline to register your team is next week – May 4th)!  Teams are encouraged to put together teams and, for a $50 contribution/registration fee, you can have some fun and raise money for a great cause – the Danni Kemp Cancer Support Fund.  Danni, a former star athlete at Foran High, lost her battle with cancer a few years ago and the Foran High School community conducts many fundraising events in her honor every year.  Please join us and help support this well-deserved fundraiser.

 

Bulk Pickup Begins Next Week – Out with Old!  Here’s the perfect opportunity to get rid of the clutter – and begin your spring cleaning!  Bulk Trash pickups begin next week.  Here’s the schedule.  (And, please take a moment to read the information established by the Public Works Dept. as to what is allowable).

Duck Race Scheduled for June 1st -- get ready for the Quack Attack!  The Annual Milford Duck Race is poised to begin under the auspices of the United Way of Milford.  More info will be coming shortly – including a school-by-school contest.  We’ll keep you posted as we get closer – but wanted to plant the seed now …. Quack quack!

Saturday, April 27th:  ‘Drug Take Back Day’, held at the Milford Senior Center (9 Jepson Drive), 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Help contain the opioid crisis.  Did you know one of the primary sources of illegally procured prescription drugs can be traced right to your own medicine cabinet?  All we need to do is safely dispose of outdated or unused prescritions – and the Milford Prevention Council and the Milford Police Dept. have teamed up once again to help us do this easily. Bring your unused/outdated prescriptions to the Milford Senior Center (9 Jepson Drive) and drop them off to the attendants there (drive through – how easy is that!?).  FLYER.

 

Saturday, April 27th: Healthy Kids Day, held at the Woodruff Family YMCA, 631 Orange Avenue, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Free and Open to the Public. Here’s a great way to spend a part of your Saturday.  The Woodruff Family YMCA is conducting its annual Healthy Kids Day at the Y.  Moon bounce, obstacle course, Zumba, games, arts & crafts, and healthy snacks (and lots more).  Join your friends and family members for some fun.  Free and open to the public.

Friday, May 3rd and Saturday, May 4th:  Beauty and the Beast, East Shore Middle School Drama Club, (time and tix info below). If you’ve never seen an East Shore Middle School production, you are in for a TREAT!  The quality of this production is impressive – don’t miss it!  There will be THREE shows available – Friday, 7:00 p.m. – Saturday, 1:00 p.m. – and Saturday, 7:00 p.m.  Tix are $10 and can be purchased at the door.  FLYER.

 

NEXT Saturday, May 4th: The Wiz – presented by the combined Drama Clubs of Harborside Middle School and Orange Avenue Elementary, held at Jonathan Law HS, (times below). Now here’s a ‘do not miss’ event.  Students from Harborside and Orange Ave join together to present The WIZ – sure to be a hit.  Two performances to choose from:  Saturday, 1:00 p.m. and Saturday, 6:00 p.m. Join us as we ‘ease on down the road.’
