Just as ‘Mr. Rogers’ used to say, “it’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood….” One quick look outside and it is, indeed, grand to see the sun streaming in our windows – and it’s already 4:00! Yay! Only a couple of items to report on this week. Here we go.

Board of Education approves 2019-20 Proposed Ed Budget; Next Step = Board of Finance. We are pleased to report the Board of Education voted to approve the 2019-20 Proposed Education Budget at their meeting on Wednesday evening (1/23). From this point forward, the document will be known as the Board of Education Proposed Budget, 2019-20.
Next Steps: Now that the Board has approved their budget proposal, and according to City Charter, it must go to the Mayor’s office no later than January 31st. It is then packaged with the Mayor’s Recommended City Budget and forwarded to the Board of Finance.
The Board of Finance will review these documents and begin their evaluative process with a PUBLIC HEARING on MONDAY, FEBRUARY 11th @ City Hall, beginning at 6:00 p.m. This is a time for all residents to come and voice their opinions of the City and/or Education budgets. We recommend you take a little time before you go to the Public Hearing to learn more about the proposed budget and the items contained within (see below).
Following the Public Hearing, the Board of Finance will publicly meet with every city department and representatives from the Board of Education to ask questions and get additional information relating to their individual budget requests. The Board of Education’s meeting with the Board of Finance will be held on TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 19th @ Parsons/Conf. Room B, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
The last step for the Board of Finance is their vote on their Recommended Budget Proposals for both the City and the Education budget. The Board of Finance will be voting on TUESDAY, MARCH 12th @ Parsons/Conf. Room B, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
After that, the whole process begins anew when the Board of Finance’s recommendations are forwarded to the Board of Aldermen. Details and dates are not yet set; we’ll keep you posted.
