NEWS

Plan Ahead for Parent-Teacher Conference: The Parent-Teacher conference is an important time to check in with your child’s teacher.  Since your time with your child’s teacher is limited, it’s a good idea to plan ahead.  Please read our TIP SHEET to help make your visit a great one.

Altered Early Dismissal Times Next Week: Each year, the Early Dismissal Times associated with our Parent-Teacher Conference schedules need to be altered by 10 minutes (compared to our normal Early Dismissal schedule). Please make a note of the following dismissal times for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Wednesday, October 24th and Thursday, October 25th (ALL students)

Foran/Law: Dismissal at 11:48 a.m.

Academy: No Change (11:00 a.m.)

Middle School: Dismissal at 12:35 p.m.

Elementary: Dismissal at 1:15 p.m.

Friday, October 25th

Elementary Only: Dismissal at 1:15 p.m.

(Middle/High School will have a normal full day).

Library Closed Tomorrow (Saturday, 10/20) for Party in the Stacks Event: It takes some time for the folks at the library to transform one of our favorite buildings into the Party in the Stacks event.  That said, the Library will be closed on Saturday to enable them to work their magic.  The theme of this year’s event is Legends of Charles Island

Food Drives/Giving Trees/Collections – Thank you for your participation! It’s the time of year when our schools begin collecting items for the holiday season.  Some of the drives we’ve seen over the past few weeks are Food/Shelf-Stable goods for Thanksgiving Basket donations, Cold-Weather items (gloves/hats/scarves/coats) for the various Giving Trees in place, or cash donations/gift cards for the purchase of items for those in need.  Our families have consistently been incredible supporters of these collection drives for years.  YOU are what makes Milford a great place to live.  Thank you, in advance, for your generosity.

MAC Looking for Student Artwork Submissions: Here’s a great opportunity for students who enjoy creative arts such as photography, drawing, and painting.  The Milford Arts Council is seeking submissions for this year’s Student Artwork Exhibit and winning submissions are eligible for a cash prize (plus having their work displayed at Milford Pediatrics in January).  Artwork must be framed/wired when submitted.  Submissions will be accepted at the MAC on Friday, Nov. 9th (4:00 – 6:00 p.m.) and Saturday, Nov. 10th (10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon).  Click HERE for the submission details.  Good luck!

The premier event of the year at the Milford Public Library – Party in the Stacks!  This year’s theme, Legends of Charles Island – is sure to delight all attendees.  Tickets can be purchased at the door, $50.  Dress up like a pirate, mermaid, or literary sea-inspired character.  A variety of treats await you as you help the Friends of the MPL continue to support a wide variety of programs all year long for our citizens.

Monday, Oct. 22nd: Board of Education Meeting, Parsons, 7:00 p.m. The Board conducts a second meeting each month called the Committee of the Whole meeting.  This meeting gives board members an additional opportunity to learn about specific projects or work-related items in a more comprehensive way.  On tap for this month:  MPS Communication Plan, BOE Governance (EL-17 Communication/Counsel to Board; GP-11 Board Structure Committee of the Whole), BOE Policies (P5145.53 Transgender, P6153 Field Trips).  All are welcome. Saturday, Oct. 27th (next Saturday): Drug Take Back Day, held @ the Milford Senior Center parking lot, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.  Thanks to the efforts of the Milford Police Department and the Milford Prevention Council, the next Drug Take Back Day has been slated for next Saturday. We ask that you review the content of your medicine cabinets, collect all outdated or no-longer-needed medications, and bring them to the Milford Senior Center parking lot on Saturday, Oct. 27th for proper disposal.  Click HERE for the flyer.

Thanks, as always, for your support and your hard work out there!  Enjoy this beautiful weekend ahead.
