Will You Make It To America?

I leave behind my cousins, young and dear; They’ll never know the freedom I have known, or learn as I have learned, that kindness dwells, in hearts that have no fear. - Rifka

Introduction: What you will find at this site is an immigration simulation, where you will assume the role of a young traveler on a virtual voyage from Russia to Ellis Island. You will face many difficulties during your journey, with problems to solve and challenges to overcome every step of the way.

There are six stages that you must complete, in order, each with its own unique obstacles. You can not move forward until you have successfully completed the task at hand.

You will be provided with a passport, which your teacher will stamp each time you complete a task.

Among the many challenges that await you are:

  • Learning the historical reasons for Jewish immigration from Russia and defining key terms.
  • Finding a sponsor in America and asking for their help.
  • Earning money for your ticket to America by competing in an on-line scavenger hunt.
  • Embarking on an interactive journey across the Atlantic in the adventure game " Stowaway"
  • Taking a virtual tour of Ellis Island.
  • Facing a judge and persuading him to grant you citizenship.
