Sight Words

The children have been learning many new sight words and are pleased when they recognize them in our weekly kindergarten news. Sight words are the frequently used words children generally learn by "sight." They are words the children can quickly identify without using phonics skills to try to decode the word. Quite often they cannot be "sounded out." For example: the, of, an, out, come. Below is a list of the words we will learn this year. You can put them on cards and play a memory game. Have your child find the words in storybooks that you read together. You can also put some on a bingo style page and play sight word bingo.
