The Star of the Week program is a favorite activity for Room 18 friends. Each child is given the opportunity to be the star for a week. This program helps to strengthen a child's self esteem. It also helps to develop a greater appreciation of the uniqueness of individuals.

The STAR is invited to bring in any personal items that tell about himself/herself. Pictures that show family, friends, their home, pets, family trips, or any other favorite memories are a good way to learn about the STAR. It's best to mount and label the pictures on a piece of poster board or put them in a book so they may be displayed. Some of the children also like to share trophies, favorite books, or souvenirs from special events or vacations. The STAR will be expected to talk about the items so it's a good idea to discuss the items at home so they're familiar with them. The items will remain on display for one week.

On Friday, everyone writes a letter to the star which is compiled into a book. It is a treasure written by very important authors...a child first grade classmates!
