Homework
Homework is very important. Homework reinforces skills and concepts taught in the classroom. It also helps the children to establish good work habits. It should not take a long time to complete.
Homework is brought home in a take-home folder. One side of the folder is for homework and the other side is for other papers. This helps to develop strong organizational skills that should follow the children through the grades. When the homework is completed, the paper should be put back in the homework side of the take-home folder. It is the children's responsibility to hand it in the next day. The children also bring home a book bag which contains one or two books that will be read independently or together with another person.
Please set aside a special time to read these books. Ask questions such as: Where did the story take place? Who are the characters? What is the problem of the story? What are some events or details that happened in the story? How was the problem solved? What happened in the beginning of the story? What happened in the middle of the story? What happened at the end? It is not necessary to do this with every book! These questions are only a guide as you discuss the text.
It’s important to bring the book bag to school daily so new books can be taken home!
