Introduction

We live in the historic State of Connecticut.   There are many treasures to discover as we travel throughout the state. You have been hired as a tour guide at the Connecticut Department of Tourism.  Your job is to make others aware of the treasures that are hidden in Connecticut.

Task

Your task is to create and design a Connecticut Travel Brochure to encourage those who read your brochure to visit the attraction. Your brochure must include the following:


Process

Follow each of the steps below to complete the Connecticut's Treasures WebQuest.  You MUST follow these numbered steps to create your Connecticut Travel Brochure.

1.  Meet with your teacher to decide if you will work by yourself or with a partner.

2.  Go to the Media Center and locate, in an Atlas, a map of Connecticut.  Reproduce the map.  Your teacher, Media Specialist, or Resource Specialist can help you reproduce the map.

3.  After the map is reproduced add major physical geographical features.

4   Using an Almanac, find the following Connecticut facts:  population, nickname, bird, song, flower, tree, famous people,  etc. Click here for worksheet.

5.  From the following resource list, choose one tourist attraction.  Click on the web site address to access information about the attraction.

6. Check out your site.  As you explore the site, find interesting facts. Record your facts, remembering to cover, who, what, where, when, why and how.  This information will help those visiting the attraction know exactly where they are going. Click here for worksheet.

7.  Down load  and print out graphics you would like to use to enhance your facts and brochure.

8.  Ask an adult to check your spelling.

9.  Using the paper provided, you will create your brochure.  You need to fold your paper in thirds.  If you need help, ask an adult.

10.  On the first third you will put your facts about Connecticut, including your map. Use your completed worksheet to help you.

11.  On the second two thirds, write about your attraction using the information from #6. Use your completed worksheet to help you.

12.  On your cover, put the name of your attraction and a picture.  Make your cover colorful and eye appealing.

13.  On the last two pages (this will be on the back) list all resources you used to create your brochure.  You must use MLA format for your bibliography. Your Media Specialist will  be able to help you with your bibliography.

14.  Ask a teacher to help you edit and revise your work.  Before handing in your work, make sure it is colorful, neat, and that all directions have  been followed.

Evaluation

1.    You will evaluate your work by using the checklists.  If you think that your brochure and worksheets are your best work, check off the boxes on each list. If some of the sentences are not checked, you may go back and correct your work.  checklist 1,      checklist2,     checklist3
2.    You will use the Research Report Rubric with your teacher to evaluate your work.
 

Conclusion

By completing this task you have discovered one of Connecticut's hidden treasures.  As you noticed from the amount of web sites there are many more treasures to be found.  Out of so many choices, why did you choose your particluar treasure?  Click onto this link to find your conclusion summary sheet.  Please answer all questions completely and with detail.  Your answers will help others as they tour Connecticut.
