Black History Lesson
Mrs. I. Natrillo
February 3, 2006

Black History is celebrated throughout the month of February. The original holiday was called "Negro History Week" which was established in 1926 by a. Harvard scholar, Dr. Carter G. Woodson. He wanted the people of the United States to see that the Negro was an active and productive being who helped shape the history of our country. He wanted people to learn about these people so that a mutual respect might grow. He chose the week in February because it was the birthday month of Abe Lincoln and Frederick Douglas, two men who helped African Americans. As time went on, "Negro History Week" became Black History Month, the celebration that we know today.

You will be creating a 2 card PowerPoint presentation that will help you present orally what you have learned about an African American who has made a difference in the world. You will use the sites below to do your research.

Card one will be your title card with the person's name and their birth and death dates.
Card two will explain how and what they accomplished.
