JONATHAN LAW HIGH SCHOOL
MISSION STATEMENT
Jonathan Law High School is a community that exists to
maximize the intellectual, the social, and the emotional
growth of each student in a safe, stable, supportive
environment. We believe that a positive, collaborative
atmosphere fosters high expectations and recognizes individual differences.
In partnership with students, parents and the community, we are committed
to developing the skills necessary for educational, career and life
choices.
Academic Expectations:
Jonathan Law High School students will:
· Read effectively.
· Write effectively.
· Communicate effectively.
· Compute effectively.
· Use technology to obtain, organize, and process appropriate
information.
· Establish individual habits conducive to learning collaboratively.
· Demonstrate problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
Social Expectations:
Jonathan Law High School students will:
· Take responsibility for their actions and commitments.
· Demonstrate respect for others.
· Develop an understanding of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
· Demonstrate the persistence necessary for success in school.
Civic Expectations:
Jonathan Law High School students will:
· Demonstrate an understanding of the responsibilities of citizenship
in a democratic society.
· Develop awareness of global issues.
Academic Expectations:
Jonathan Law High School students will:
· Read effectively.
o Students will read and be able to comprehend, analyze, interpret and
evaluate a variety of texts.
· Write effectively.
o Students will produce an expository essay that meets the standards
of the Graduation Writing Requirement.
· Communicate effectively.
o Students will speak, listen to, and communicate ideas accurately for
a variety of purposes and audiences.
· Compute effectively.
o Students will show proficiency in mathematics by meeting the graduation
requirements.
· Use technology to obtain, organize, and process appropriate
information.
o Students will use appropriate technology to solve a real world challenge
or problem.
· Demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively as well as independently.
o Students will work cooperatively and independently to complete learning
goals.
· Demonstrate problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
o Students will apply previously acquired knowledge to new and unfamiliar
situations.
Social Expectations:
Jonathan Law High School students will:

o Students will understand that choices have consequences that must
be accepted.
· Demonstrate respect for others.
o Students will follow the standards of acceptable behavior as outlined
in the Student Handbook by the classroom teacher.
· Develop an understanding of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
o Students will meet the course requirements in Health and Physical
Education as prescribed by the Milford Board of Education.
· Demonstrate the persistence necessary for success in school.
o Students will exhibit the resilience necessary to accept and overcome
challenges.
Civic Expectations:
Jonathan Law High School students will:
· Demonstrate an understanding of the responsibilities of citizenship
in a democratic society.
o Students will successfully meet the requirements of a Civics course.
· Develop awareness of global issues.
o Students will successfully meet course requirements for a global studies
course.
