JONATHAN LAW HIGH SCHOOL
COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER
The following services are provided to all JLHS students:
Internet Access:
Access to Internet sites is available for students and their parents
to research information on colleges, financial aid, scholarships, and careers.
Naviance:
Naviance is a valuable web based program
with capabilities to assist students and parents in planning their academic
program and in exploring post secondary options. Students register into the
program in school and may then use it at home to explore colleges, scholarships
and take a personality assessment test to match them to possible future careers.
Choices:
The Choices program is a computer software package that provides students,
parents, and counselors with information about careers, colleges, job training,
future employment outlook and earnings for any type of career. This program
has an interest survey that students can take which may provide additional career
options.
College Representative
Visits:
Also during the school year, admissions representatives from area colleges
and business schools will visit the College and Career Center to speak with
interested students. Advance notice via morning announcements is given, as well
as updates to our web calendar, and students may sign up in the Guidance Office
in order to attend a presentation.
Military Service:
Recruiters from all branches of the Armed Forces will also visit during
the school year and students may sign up to attend a presentation.
Interest and
Ability Tests:
In addition to the software programs, students may take the Harrington
O'Shea or COPS interest inventory tests to determine what careers may be of
interest to them.
Resources:
The College and Career Center also has a variety of books and videos
that will assist students in preparing college application essays, search for
scholarships, and research colleges, including technical, culinary, and business
schools.
