Save the Children

John
F. Kennedy School has been a friend of "Save the Children" since
1987. The first grade students in Miss Jahnke's class have actively
participated in writing mini-books, designing bookmarks and conducting raffles
in order to raise money for this worthy cause. At the beginning of each
school year, Miss Jahnke's students enthusiastically engage in opening their
"Save the Children Stand" located just inside their classroom
door. The stand is frequented throughout the school year by JFK students,
parents and visitors who might purchase a book, bookmark or perhaps a raffle
ticket. Most recently, this
fund-raising project has become an entire grade level effort featuring a raffle
in December with a multitude of prizes.
The purchase of raffle tickets takes place in the JFK cafeteria during
lunch waves with all first graders assuming the role of “Save The Children
Ambassadors.” Parents volunteer
their time to assist the children in selling tickets. All proceeds go to "Save the
Children." It's JFK's way to creatively fundraise, establish and
promote a caring community of learners and help those less fortunate to find
hope for the future. If
anyone would like to simply donate to “Save The Children,” you may contact the federation at 54 Wilton
Road, PO Box 950, Westport, CT 06880, phone # 203-221-4000. Thank you very
much.
