ON-LINE SERVICES

The HMS Media Center offers several on-line services to provide students access to magazines, newspapers and encyclopedias on the web.  We are pleased to inform you that all of these databases may be accessed from school and at home.

ABC-CLIO - World Geography

Explore more than 200 countries.  In this subscription database, you will find country profiles and overviews, history, important statistics about population, climate, economics, culture, biographies, influential organizations, primary source documents, maps, flags, and photos.

EBSCOhost Middle Online

Use this database to find over 25,000 entries in the Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia, full-text articles in over 145 magazines, plus newspaper articles.  Health Source also provides full text for nearly 190 journals, and several professional collections may be searched, as well.

The eLibrary Curriculum Edition where “students find the answers they need from more than 2,000 full-text and multimedia sources.”
The History Study Center, which “offers invaluable historical reference material that covers 14 centuries of history, from ancient to modern, old world to new world.”
ProQuest Learning: Literature “contains a comprehensive resource including 3,000+ author biographies; 40 searchable full-text literature journals; full-text literary works; and other key criticism and reference sources.”

iConn.org - Connecticut Digital Library

Connect to a variety of links including newspapers such as the Hartford Courant and New York Times, plus magazines and journals including Info Trac Kid Edition.  The Discovering Collection is also featured with links to Biographies, Classroom Topics, Timelines, Literature, Dictionary, plus many more. Click on "Access Databases from Home." Enter your public library card barcode number.

Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia

Contains links to the Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia,which is a valuable resource "containing thousands of new and expanded articles, extensive hyperlinks, bibliographies and links to other sources of information on the Web.” It is updated monthly. Links are also provided for The New Book of Knowledge Online and Encyclopedia Americana.
