There were billions of numbers that were used to build and sail the Titanic. You will begin a search to locate some of these numbers using Internet sites that I have selected for you. You will also search the library as an additional source.Once you have a selection of numbers, we will use these numbers to write word problems for ratio, percent and proportion.

Activity 2Research the following Titanic sites for numbers to make your own ratio and proportion problems:
1. There were 1,500 passengers on the Titanic.
- Use the following as an example:
Of these passengers, there were 500 first
class passengers.What is the ratio of total passengers to first
class passengers?Solution: 1,500 = 15 = 3
500 5 1Written as a ratio it would read: 1:3 passengers would be first class.
- Write out a list of 20 numbers that you will use to make up your problems.
- Prepare a list of your Internet sources and all other sources used.
- Share your problems with the class and one interesting fact that you learned while researching the Titanic web sites.
