INTRODUCTION
It is the END OF THE WORLD.  You and your group have been given the task of creating a new city on a new world.  It will be the only city in which to preserve our cultures.  You have the technology to transport any building or monument to your new city.  However, you have only been allocated a total space of one square mile for the entire city.  You are looking to preserve the historical culture of the earth by creating a museum using the architectures around the world for future generations of humans to visit.

TASK

Each group will be responsible for creating a museum city that uses architecture currently on the earth.  You will choose the monuments or buildings you feel best represent the achievements of the human race.  Each group will fulfill the requirements of this project by creating a blueprint and guidebook of your Legacy of Earth.  It is important that you and your group give:

  1. a full description of each building chosen as well as dimensions (to be
        included in the  guidebook)
  2. pictures/photographs of buildings (to be included in the
        guidebook)
  3. blueprint of the city

PROCESS

Each group member must research on his/her own and choose the between 5 and 10 historical buildings/monuments.  The choices must represent at least three different continents.  As you do this, remember to answer the following questions:

1. Where/location of the monuments/buildings (absolute/relative
            location)
2. Who originally designed the monuments/buildings, and the date
            they were designed?
3. Importance/historical significance of of your choice.
4. Dimensions/measurement/size of the monuments/buildings.

After you have individually completed your research, you will choose the role that you will play in order to fully accomplish the goal of this project.

ROLES: WHO'S WHO

1. City Planner: (Engineer + mathematician)  The planner is responsible for designing the landscape of the new city making provision for walkways, lawn areas, rest areas, picnic areas, restrooms, etc.
2. Historian: The two historians will gather all the information that each of  the group members came up with in their respective research and critically  review them for accuracy.  Also, the historians will edit and write the descriptions of the buildings/monuments into a single document for the group. (You may want to have 2 historians)
3. Artist: The artist has the important role of drawing the blueprint  of the city.  Also, keep in mind as the artist, you are responsible for helping the city planner keep your city beautiful.  It is important that the artist  incorporate such map making skills such as:
      Title
      Key/Legend
      Compass Rose
      Scale

Negotiation: Each member of the group is required to negotiate with the members of the of his/her group to ensure that at least one monument/building from his/her list of choices is chosen for their new city.  Remember, the final chosen monuments for each group must include choices from at least three continents.
