Introduction
Your long lost rich uncle has just given you $100,000. What do you do now? Spend it? Save it? Invest It? You ask the smartest guy you know, Mr. K! He recommends that you consider investing in the stock market. "Money has the opportunity to grow by investing in companies that are publicly traded on the stock market." You look at Mr. K and you ask him to explain. He turns the problem over to you and tells you this would be a great learning experience and you should do research on stock market investing. 4.Complete Reading a Stock Table. The final test will ask you to name the parts of a stock table.
Homework: Go to the money section in a newspaper and look over the stock tables. NYSE New York Stock Exchange or the NASDAQ Try to find the closing price for a stock that you are familiar with.
5. Do the research. Come up with five companies that you are interested in buying shares. When you buy shares you should consider, past performance, industry trends, price per share, price earnings ration, leadership of the company, products that they sell and many other aspects.
6. Invest $100,000 dollars in the stock market. Play the investsmart stock market game
Tips to the game:
* Always go to investment group. You will create a personal password as well as a class password. You should always play the game in the investment group. Never make up a new investor, this will result in lost computer time and extra homework and a call home.
* Every time you buy or sell you pay a broker fee. This costs you money.
* Buy low, sell high!
7. Keeping track of your portfolio with manual calculations.
Take five of your stocks and calculate how much it will cost to buy a certain amount of a stock at a 2% broker fee. Use the following forms:
