1. Each group of 4 will select a country.
2. Each member will need to research what cities are within their país.

Select 3-4 cities.
4.
Each group will create una presentación oral en español – Power Point
– and answer the following questions in their presentation.
¿Cómo se llama el país?
¿Dónde está?
¿Qué
otros países están situados al norte, al sur, al este, y al oeste?
¿Qué
lenguas se hablan?
¿Qué
ciudades debemos ver?
¿Qué
vistas debemos ver en estas ciudades?
In
addition to the Power Point, the group will also teach the class about their
país and cuidades through the use of our senses.
This
is not a term paper! This is a telling and doing presentation about people and
their cultures!!!
Requirements:
1. The oral presentation will be given in Spanish and
will involve the class’s participation in at least three of the following
areas. The ideas after each area are only suggestions – you may come up with
other ideas.
a. Hearing-
Play a tape, teach us a song, play an instrument, record an interview, etc.
from that culture
b. Sight-
Show and tell pictures, postcards, souvenirs, coins, stamps, video, fashion
(folk or current), art, etc.
c.
Smell-
Can the class identify a product from your país by scent alone? (i.e.
Coconut extract, oil, perfume)
d. Touch-
Can the class identify a product by touch alone? (i.e. wool, raffia, llama fur)
e. Taste-
Make, bake, or bring in a food, drink, fruit, veggie, or spice typical of the culture you are
researching and include how and what it’s made of and if it’s served on special
occasions.
f. “Hands-On” – Teach us a craft, a song, or a game from the country. Put on a
short play that show how the kids there go to school or go on dates or go
through a typical day with their family. Show us different gestures from that
culture.
g. Bring In A Live One – If you know someone from your comunidad
autónoma, bring them in to talk to the class!
2. Project Stages:
a. Rough draft idea outline to include topic,
presenters, and how each person will contribute equally to the project, and
presentation methods – at least three areas from above. This will be returned
and discussed if necessary for final approval.
b. A detailed lesson plan includes all the finalized
information from the rough draft plus a list of 3 or more resources (books,
people, newspapers, internet, or magazine articles) and a list of any special
set – up needed (dittos to be run off, VCR, record/cassette player, desks
re-arranged, laptop, etc.)
c. Class presentation will be in Spanish. You may
only use ONE note card containing an outline.
d. The final grade will be based on the depth of the
cultural experience provided and the clarity of the presentation.
e.
Length of presentation must be one class period.
The PowerPoint presentation should be at least 5 minutes allowing the remaining
time for the senses presentation. Grade will be lowered if presentation
is not at least one class period. Time yourself and Practice, Practice,
Practice!
f. Don’t forget to get your audience involved! You
are the teacher! Ask and answer audience questions.
g. As an audience member your participation will also be graded.
h. This project is worth 100 points. Be creative and
have fun!
Touching,
Seeing, Smelling, Tasting, and Hearing – all five senses become involved in the
learning experience!!!
Touch – Put on a
“Gaucho” (Argentine Cowboy) belt and poncho. Try out the “rebenque” whip and
the “boleadoras.” (lariate)
See - Observe the
“Gaucho” and “China” dolls.
Read the lines
from Martin Fierro, the famous epic poem of Argentina and note the
illustrations.
Smell and Taste –
Smell and taste “yerba mate” tea of the Pampas.
Hear – Listen to the music of “el tango”, “la rumba”, “la salsa”, “la plena”, “el danzón”, y “el merengue”. Listen to the recitations of “la poesia negra” (black poetry) of Joaqun Zacarias Tallet of Luis Pales Matos.
