Election Game Position Newsletter

R. Marottoli

Revised December 10, 2002

Introduction -

Have you ever heard someone say " If I were President ( or senator, or mayor ) I'd ...."? Well, now you've got your chance. What would you do if you were elected? Here's your chance to tell us where you stand on the different issues. You'll be making a campaign brochure to hand out to the voters to get their votes on election day.

Tasks -

1) Research ( using the sources below) the issues a candidate running for
your office would be interested in.
2) Select 5 key issues and take a stand on each one.
3) Put these positions into a newsletter (or pamphlet) to be handed out
before the election

Procedures-

1) Compile a list of issues to consider for your position paper.
2) Get some background information on the issues that seem interesting to you.

3) Narrow your list down to 5 key issues.
4) Take a stand on each of the 5 issues ( What will you do concerning
that issue if you are elected? )
5) Each issue should have a minimum of 7 sentences. Identify the problem
then tell what you intend to do about it if you are elected. The Chart should
help you record and develop your issues.
6) Develop your newsletter (or pamphlet) with the issues being
featured.
7) Look to make it eye-catching. Include graphics and a picture of the
candidate.
8) Distribute the newsletter before the election.

Evaluation-

As with all the parts of the Election Game, your position newsletter
will be scored somewhere between 0 and 10. ( See rubric).
