The Process
As an intern you will be expected to perform tasks that will help you become familiar with the living world of poetry that surrounds you. The following tasks will be completed through a technological explorations of our senses.
Sight Quest

1.

First, obtain a Sight Quest Word Splash from your teacher. |

2.
|
After you have read the following directions, you will click on the link below to investigate the photo gallery at National Geographic. |
|
3.
|
Select a category that interests you by clicking on the topic that you believe will be the most inspiring. This will display a gallery of thumbnail pictures to choose from. |
|
4.
|
Choose a photo from the gallery by double clicking on it. If you would like to enlarge it double click it again. |
|
5.
|
Complete the word splash. |
|
6.
|
For your assignment complete a poem inspired by your word splash. You don't have to use all your words. |
Sound Quest
|
1.
|
Open the Sound Quest worksheet by clicking on the link. (See directions for saving files to your folder.) |

2.
|
After
you have read the directions, you will click on the link below to investigate
the different sounds at Music from Korea. For each sound or song write words or phrases that you think of while you are listening to it. |
|
3.
|
Then, use the online thesaurus to find synonyms for these words. Just click the link below to access the Thesaurus. |
|
4.
|
For your assignment complete a poem inspired by the sounds that you wrote on the worksheet. You don't have to use all your words. |
Nature Quest
This will be a field trip we will take to explore our senses while we experience them in our living world of poetry. You will be expected to describe what you see, feel, hear, taste, and smell during this trip. Bring your journals!

1.

When instructed by the teacher, sketch a picture as a visual reminder of the experience. |
|
2.
|
Immediately following your sketch, write your individual thoughts on our sensory experience using metaphors, similes, words, and personal thoughts to inspire you for your final examination. |
|
3.
|
For your homework assignment, you will compose a poem containing at least 16 lines of poetry that we will use as the featured piece of your published anthology. |
|
4.
|

Publish Your Anthology
Once we have had a chance
to edit and revise our poems we will begin the publishing process.
|
1.
|
First, select two poems from your writing folder to include with your nature quest poem in your anthology. |
|
2.
|
Dedicate your book to a specific person. Give a poetic reason for your dedication. For example, an author may write his/her dedication as follows:

|
3.
|
Retype your three poems using the publishing program in computer lab. (See directions for saving files to your folder.) |
|
4.
|
Proofread your poem to be certain it has no spelling errors! |
|
5.
|
Last but not least, illustrate your nature quest poem using the Clarisworks Drawing Pad or clip art (I prefer an original work. Remember, keep the art simple as it is merely an accessory to the art of your poetry). |

6.
|
Bind your book. |
Reflections: Memoirs of a Doctor of Poetry
|
1.
|
Revisit the task page to complete your final examinations. Congratulations! Publishing your book was your first step in obtaining your certificate. (50 points awarded for publishing on time, without errors) |

2.
|
Your second examination hinges on redefining your feelings about poetry. Are we all doctors of poetry? Answer the questions on your Poetic License survey. We will have a class discussion to celebrate our feelings, opinions, and growth as doctors of poetry. (20 points) |
