The only thing necessary
for to
exist
is for good men to do nothing.
Prejudice touches us all, and you will have an opportunity to experience some of the consequences of intolerance towards ordinary people like you. You will also discover that many people had the courage to care. During this WebQuest, you may become a Jewish person being persecuted during the Holocaust, an African American struggling against segregation and discrimination in America, or a fearless freedom fighter who has the will and determination to combat these evils.
In this WebQuest each group member will read the stories of some of the people who have been involved with one aspect of prejudice. As each story is read, each group member will assume either the character of 2 African American victims of racial prejudice in American History, 2 victims of religious prejudice during the Holocaust or 2 freedom fighters during either of these turbulent times. Upon completion of research, story maps for each character will be created using Inspiration, if available, and a Power Point program plus a compare/contrast chart will be presented to the class.
In this WebQuest you will be working with a group of 3
students. To avoid duplicating information and to allow many stories
to be told, Groups 1 and 2 will research items
highlighted in RED; Groups
3 and 4 will research items highlighted in GREEN;
Groups
5 & 6 will research items highlighted in BROWN;
and Groups 7 & 8 will research items highlighted
in ORANGE.

Conclusion
You have had just a glimpseof
the lives of people who have had to face the evils of prejudice.
By no means is this a complete picture of racial or religious prejudice.
However, these individuals have shown courage and conviction as they dealt
with their own experiences. If you have found this project interesting,
you are encouraged to visit "A Teacher's Guide to the Holocaust" at http://fcit.coedu.usf.edu/Holocaust/resource/website.htm.
, or "Segregation by Force and by Choice" at http://njtimes.rutgers.edu/Segreg.htm,
or "The National Civil Rights Museum" at http://www.midsouth.rr.com/civilrights/.
As Alfon Hecks, a former Hitler Youth member said, "Children are like empty vessels. They can be filled with evil, and they can be filled with good." As you live your life, may you resist the evil and promote the good.
