| Based on our class discussions about the novel Maniac Magee, students have been encouraged to take a closer look at diversity and prejudice. The events in the story have introduced issues such as homelessness, diversity, prejudice and tolerance. Throughout this activity, you will encounter some familiar and unfamiliar terms dealing with these issues. The journey will force us all to examine our own thoughts and beliefs take a stance on critical issues. |

WHAT IS ALL THE COMMOTION ABOUT? Students at East Shore Middle School are divided on an important issue. The debates are focused on the necessity of classes dealing with diversity, prejudice and tolerance such as Reality Check. It is clear that numerous students do not believe that prejudice still exists today therefore, these classes are no longer needed . However, many students are rallying for the classes to continue due to their beliefs that prejudice is still very much a part of our everyday lives. You have been selected by a group of teachers and Mrs. Barrett to voice your view on this issue. Utilize the following links to gather information that will help to support your stance. Write a persuasive essay on whether you think that the classes should continue or not. |
