Dear Room 6 Families,
We are finishing up our unit on the Arctic and Arctic Animals. We made scrimshaw necklaces out of styrofoam. We will be learning about the northern lights and making beautiful pictures using colored chalk. We will be leaving the northern hemishphere for our next unit of study and heading south!
Our next unit of study will be on penguins! We will also learn about Chinese New Year, which starts Friday and Ground Hog Day, February 2nd!
Luci Hackett was our "Top Dog" for January. Congratulations Luci and keep up the "Pawsitive" behavior!
In Writer's Workshop - The students are finishing up their list and label books. They have done some editing and revising, added details to their pictures to support their words and started on their front covers. Hopefully, I will be sending the books home with their Pawfolios on Friday.
In Fundations - The students are learning to write all of the uppercase, or capital, letters. They are almost finished with their notebooks, so I will be sending them home soon. We are working the vowel sounds which can be very tricky! I shared a fun story called mother vowel to help them remember the vowel sounds. We are also working on tapping out and reading CVC words. (hat, bet, sit, fun) Please continue to read to and with your children nightly!
Homework will be ready this Friday! I apologize for the delay. With the days off and early dismissals the kindergarten team did not have the homework ready last week.
In math, we are working on number combinations to 10, counting to 100 by 1s and 10s, and writing numerals 0-20.
We had our first 100th day project come in! I hope you enjoy working on them, be creative and have fun! The only rule is to use the 100 sticks!
Much love and gratitude,
