SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER

Hello Room D1 Families!

Welcome back to a wonderful new school year! The children are all adjusting nicely to our third grade classroom. It is a very exciting time of year for everyone, and every day I enjoy learning about each child and their interests.

Please be sure to frequently check my website for updated news about what is happening in our classroom. Also, in addition to the school calendar of events I will be constantly updating our classroom events calendar through my website.

Your child will be coming home each night with his/her homework folder and planner. Please be sure to check the planner and sign it each night to ensure that all work is being completed, and notices are being seen by you. Your child should also be reading at least 20 minutes each night and recording it in his/her reading log to be handed in every Monday.

In the next several weeks we will be working hard on establishing classroom routines and starting to dive into the third grade curriculum. The children will learn how to select independent "Just Right" reading books. Ask your child how they self-select their "Just Right" books.

In math, we will  be brushing up on our addition and subtraction facts as well as learning new strategies to solve challenging math problems. We will be starting multiplication and division soon, so please start having your child work on their facts. Flashcards are a great way to practice at home.

In Writer's Workshop the children are beginning to write meaningful and special entries into their writer's notebooks. Please encourage your child to write in their notebooks as often as possible. It is a great place to write their thoughts and ideas. This month the children will be writing their first stories in the areas of persuasive  and fictional narrative writing.

In science we are starting our first unit on weather which the children are very excited about! It will be a fun unit filled with hands on explorations.

I look forward to working with you and your amazing children this school year! If you have any questions please feel free to email me at mbaloghsaccone@milforded.org.

Happy Fall! I look forward to meeting all of you at our upcoming Open House.

Sincerely,

Ms. Saccone
