Mrs. Bacon (formerly know as Ms. Parkin) received her undergraduate degree in art education from Marywood College (now known as Marywood University) in Scranton, PA. She completed her graduate degree in art education at Southern Connecticut State University with a semester abroad in Urbino, Italy the summer of 2004.
Before teaching at West Shore, Mrs. Bacon taught visual art to grades K through 12 in many long term substituting positions throughout Western Connecticut. She began teaching sixth grade art in Brookfield, CT. Then was a long-term substitute in art teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th grades in Wilton, CT. After that, her last long-term substituting position was in the Amity district teaching 8th and 9th grades art. Mrs. Bacon taught K through 7th grade art in Curiale, Read, and Hallen schools in Bridgeport, CT before coming to Milford. Mrs. Bacon also taught 9th through 12th grades at Jonathan Law High School teaching art for seniors, drawing and cartooning.
This is currently her 14th year teaching at West Shore. Mrs. Bacon has participated in the summer HOTs training in which she learned how to teach to all of Howard Gardner’s multiple intelligences. She also participated in TRIBES training, learning how to have cooperative group work. Mrs. Bacon then received training from Mr. Brown on the Make Your Day program. She has also been recently trained as a PLC leader, and is co-leader for the middle school art department. This summer, Mrs. Bacon attended a conference on Art and the Common Core at Fairfield University.
