Advanced Placement Studio Art

Drawing, Two-Dimensional Design, Three-Dimensional Design

Advanced Placement Studio Art is a rigorous art course designed for students who are seriously interested in the practical experience of art. Students submit portfolios to the College Board in May for independent review. The AP Studio Art Program consists of three portfolio options- Drawing, 2-D Design, and 3-D Design.

In this course you students are required to:

  • Keep a sketchbook/journal
  • Participate in individual and group critiques
  • Challenge your creativity
  • Select a concentration area
  • Complete all portfolio requirements
  • Participate in summer work
  • Make a commitment of time outside of class

Each portfolio has three sections required for submission. Submission requirements:

Section I: Quality

Five actual drawings; maximum size is 18" x 24"

Five actual works; maximum size is 18" x 24"

Five works; two images of each one are submitted

Section II: Concentration

12 images; some may be details

12 images; some may be details

12 images; some may be second views

Section III: Breadth

12 works; one image of each is submitted

12 works; one image of each is submitted

Eight works; two images of each are submitted
