THE ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY
The argumentative essay is a genre of writing that requires the student to investigate a topic; collect, generate, and evaluate evidence; and establish a position on the topic in a concise manner.
CORNELL NOTES STRATEGY:
1. Take notes from a textbook. The notes must indicate the main idea of each paragraph and be in the student's own words
2. Create Questions. After finishing note-taking, students must then create questions that reflect the learning from the notes that the students took. Questions cannot be simple yes/no questions.
3. Finally, students must summarize their learning in 3 - 4 complete sentences. This is the final piece. The summary must reflect the main points of the reading.
