Supplies, Behavior and Expectations
As fourth graders, I expect the students to take ownership of and be personally responsible for their own behavior. Early in the year I place a great deal of emphasis on classroom conduct as it sets the tone for the rest of the year. To be successful, students must be able to work quietly for a sustained period of time up to 45 minutes. They must also be able to appropriately participate in whole class discussions and independent small group discussions in addition to teacher lead lessons.
In all of the major subject areas, students will be required to work and produce on their own. Without the skills and etiquette necessary to work independently, their comprehension of new skills and concepts will be negatively impacted.
Participation is a must! The students are often the best teachers at any given moment and I encourage and applaud both contributions and questions. Moving forward the students will be held accountable for their own learning. I will provide the tools and support but I expect them to be active participants in the process.
