I’m a little student smart and sweet.

Here is my brain and here are my feet.

When I go to school, I start to grow--

My brain gets bigger and bigger, you know!

PAST RED WORDS

Ways to practice include: using magnetic letters to make the words, circle the letters in magazine or newspaper words, or write them using markers, crayons or chalk.

HOMEWORK THIS WEEK:

Parents:  Be sure to read to your child this week! 15 minutes a night adds up to quite a bit of time together over the weeks, months, and year!

Children:  Practice counting to 50 this week.  Make it fun by jumping on the tens (10, 20, 30, 40, 50).

A v and w word writing paper will come home this week…use your best sound spelling to write the words. (Mom and Dad can’t tell you how to spell the words!)

COMPLIMENT CORNER

Another great week! So many hard working students in our room! Ryan and Wesley did a wonderful job as our classroom helpers last week. And Hazel, and Justin did great writing work, making their pictures and words match.

The weather is changing and the building temperature changes….please dress your child in layers.  We may also need  an extra change of clothes, including underwear and long pants, in case of accidents if you haven’t already sent these items in.

Writing Workshop:

Booking making is fun! We are busy drafting our books and learning how to stay on topic this week.

Reading Workshop:

This week, we will continue to work on strategies that readers  use—use connecting words to tell the story, making our voices sound like the characters, try to tell the story using exact words, and using pictures to help us when we are confused.

Math Workshop:

Unit 2 is almost done…only two more lessons!  We will be comparing lengths as well as ordering numerals from smallest to largest this week.

HALLOWEEN THANKS!

What a great parade! I was very impressed with our class…everyone did a great job at the parade, but even after wards, children were able to undress themselves and put their costumes away without any help!

Thank you, parents, for helping make a successful morning by following the school expectations for this event.

COMPLIMENT CORNER

So many great kids in our room! Last week, many of the boys would help keep the bathrooms clean, and our girls worked hard to keep our classroom clean! We also earned a We Did It ticket for excellent lunch room behavior!

Writing Workshop:

We will be creating idea sheets this week related to List book writing.

Reading Workshop:

I held off on starting Unit 2 due to different children being absent for a variety of reasons last week. I am very excited our new unit! Our main focuses during this unit will be using pictures to retell the story, developing story language, syntax and vocabulary, and thinking and talking about books with partners.

Math Workshop:

Unit 2 continues! We love to measure, so I will be sending homework home this week to practice.

HALLOWEEN NOTE:

The Orange Avenue School Halloween Parade will be held on October 30th from 8:45 - 9:05. We invite all of our parents who are available to come stand along the parade route and cheer on the kids. We will be parading across the front of the school, and then across Orange Avenue to visit with our neighbors at the West River Rehabilitation Center.

Children need to come to school IN COSTUME, and have a change of clothes for after the parade.  PLEASE LABEL YOUR CHILD’S BAG/COSTUME SO IT GETS RETURNED TO YOU.

NO SCARY COSTUMES, MAKE UP, WEAPONS OR OTHER PROPS.  Please save those for trick or treating at home as often times, they get left behind at school.

Parents will not be allowed into the building, so be sure that your child understands this!

Finally, if it is pouring rain, we will be parading inside Orange Avenue for students and staff only.

Thank you!
